[Abandoned] MinecartMania Reborn
Minecart Mania 2.0 is a total minecart overhaul for fun and profit.
With MCM you can:
- Jump and ramp minecarts through the air
- Travel at ludicrous speeds (no derailing!)
- Set destinations for each cart and route them automatically through intersections.
- Route minecarts based on their type, contents or direction.
- Use block or signs to change speed, physics, and other properties on the fly.
- Use minecarts to farm wheat, lumber and other crops, harvest them and place them in chests
- Use advanced sensors to trigger redstone circuits based on the type, contents and direction of minecarts.
Note: 7/23/2013 by jrbudda
MinecarftMania has been almost totally re-written Please read Whats new in v2 for the current list of changes from the original.

It can already lag when the loading of chunks from disk is a little bit too slow. I run my server in a RAM disk to avoid that ;)

Posted Aug 31, 2012Tried to reproduce the "player damage - riding off the track" problem on my own local test server, which is identical to our actual public server, when it comes to CraftBukkit build and plugin configuration.
No luck - riding is smooth, no damage to players.
But when I log into our public server early in the morning, I am the only player there, so server load is minimal -> same problems as I have described.
This really must be something other than MMR - I suspect Mojang's code and/or CraftBukkit for 1.3.x - but it does look very weird. Our public server is in Sweden, we are in Finland (neighbour country) so there really shouldn't be a lag issue, especially when I am the only player in the whole #(#"/="#( server!

Please send such things via PM in the future. And I do not like people deleting posts, actually it is the most annoying thing for me.

I do not want to start guessing the correct position of players when the server doesn't recognize the position properly :\

Posted Aug 31, 2012Well ... if you know the story before this post, you would understand why I wrote this. Sorry.
Our producers will create a short film about the whole story, this will take a part in it (sorry for my bad english). So thanks for your plugin :D

Maybe you could recalculate the exact position of the player?

Posted Aug 30, 2012After reading some Minecraft 1.3.1/1.3.2 bug reports I think the damage while riding carts is a minecraft issue related to lag. The server thinks your are one block or more off your position and if that means you would be inside rock so be it, go suffocate ... Can't do anything about it, sorry!
@Etsija
Yes, thank you very much for your work on the directional changes! I really should credit you for that! I will create a contributers page soon and you will get a place there :)

Posted Aug 30, 2012I have not read QuaterCode's post (he deleted it?), but from the comments, can deduce what was in it. For my part, I sincerely thank Afforess and mze9412 for creating and maintaining this project as open source. Without it, I could not have contributed to the work by bringing in my "new directionality" changes as pull requests to mze9412. As it is now, this plugin supports both the old and new directionaly settings, which I think benefits both old and new users of MM.

I'd rather have MMR sticks with XML. What works for other plugins doesn't have to work for MMR. Right now setting control blocks is relatively easy, due to the flexibility of XML. If you change it, you will have the rewrite a lot documentation. And all current server maintainers must rewrite their config files, which can take quite a long time if it's complicated. And it might introduce bugs in correctly interpreting the new config files. Right now the only drawback (IMO) is that you need to know a little XML. Which is true as well for yaml. And those who have enough knowledge of computers to run their own MC servers probably can manage configuring MMR this way.

Afforess abandoned it, he knows that I am developing it and most importantly the code is under an Open Source license which allows me (and anyone else!) to copy and modify it in any way. Please read the license (Creative Commons 3.0) before making such comments. MinecartMania was always an open source project and MinecartMania Reborn will also be an open source project.
CC3 allows the following things:
What I have to do is to keep Afforess as the original author. I cannot claim that I did all the work and that is also way I will keep his name in the code (package names) and in the plugin.yml files and the POM. I never claimed to develop this on my own either.
You are doing a closed source implementation of something similar and Minecart Revolution might might even be the better plugin but I have never tried it out. But in my opinion Bukkit can only thrive by being open source. The same holds true for complex and great plugins: If MinecartMania where closed source my players could have thrown away about 1 year of building work when Afforess stopped updating it. Luckily I could legally maintain it (and improve it in some little ways)!
@leagris
Thanks for your comment :)

Please read history an description. Afforess abandoned the projet and allowed someone to get it back to life.
I guess I should read your questions with a bit of humour and sweetener, because, you are the project manager of MinecartRevolution and I could appreciate how your own project is getting maintained :)

I personally do not need a tool to configure it, but for those who are not used to xml configuration would probably use it.

Are you using MyHome by any chance? I've noticed some issues with minecarts while using it. Main issue is not being able to get out of a minecart.

I have thought about this several times but I do not want to switch now. The config files are fairly complex and Afforess was pretty strict about staying with XML because it was easier to define the control blocks that way. I will do this when I have fixed other issues, but not now :)
Would it be helpful to have a tool to configure MM?

Good to hear. I have missed Minecart Mania for a long time.
As a suggestion, you should update the config to yml. From what I remember hearing, xml was the old bukkit config I believe.

I requested the documentation from Afforess (original maker of MinecartMania) yesterday. If I do not get it I will have to reconstruct the documentation, otherwise I will just update his.
