MagicSpells

Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

It's not outdated, you're looking in the wrong spot. You should be looking at the particle list, not the effect list.

Thanks, works perfectly!
The effect guide is outdated, greensparkle = happyVillager, angry = angryVillager. I still haven't figured out smoke, hearts, or spawn.

Posted Dec 2, 2013Development builds that are fully compatible with 1.7.2 are now available. Please note that these are test builds, they aren't approved by BukkitDev staff and are not officially supported. I won't even link to them here. If you would like more information, please visit the forums.

I've tested it quite a bit already, and everything seems to be working fine, except for the things on this page:
http://nisovin.com/magicspells/volatilefeatures
which is to be expected. I'll have a dev build up later today that will resolve some of those issues.

Posted Nov 29, 2013Could you add the ability to have custom death messages when killed by a spell? For example, our server has managed to turn the pain spell into a working musket and we would like the death message when killed by that spell to be "x was shot by y".

Read up on Predefined Items and Item Types. This will let you know all about changing the names (or even required lore) of items used by, or created by spells.

Posted Nov 29, 2013This plugin is AMAZING. I can even change the name of spells.
Just a suggestion. I want people to pay for wands, but sticks are EASY to get. I also noticed that if you change the name of a wand (stick) in an anvil, the wand no longer works. So, in the spell yml thing, can I change 'stick' to 'wand'? Or do you have to make an update to do this?

Posted Nov 27, 2013Hi I really like this plugin :)
I have tried to modify the "haste" spell to make it use up mana as fast as the "invisible" spell. But adding the same text cost: - mana 25 use-cost: - mana 15 use-cost-interval: 3 does not make the spell burn up mana the same way. I don't want people to speedrun all the time, as is almost possible with the default configuration. Could someone please tell me how to set it up? :)

Posted Nov 27, 2013Hello all,
Just a quick question, is there anyway that I can make named items with lore the wand item for certain spells? For example, I wish to use a book as a certain wand item but I want it to be named something like "Conjurer's Tome" with a lore. I have tried this in-game but it does not recognize the book as an actual book... only plain books can be used. If this isn't a feature, can it be done? Maybe this could be a possible implement for feature builds?
Thanks much,
JonnyxCelay

Really? I'm in the middle of moving so couldn't test it myself, but this opens the field up tremendously! All new slash commands without something like BetterAlias? Ya! One more plugin I don't need! Thanks man.

He is referring to an option you can add to spells that let you cast a spell using chat (i.e.: saying "Flame on" in chat would trigger the fireball spell), although I don't think what he proposes would work. Incantation act on the say command and adding a slash before a word makes it a command unto itself.
What your looking for is the "spell" he pointed out to add the incantation to: the List Spell.

Posted Nov 23, 2013Would it be possible to make a */spells* command that would list all of a player's known spells? It may not be the most pressing matter, but it would certainly make it much more user friendly. (I know there are wands you can cycle through but it requires more than one wand just to go through all the spells. Oh and yes I know there is spell request forum but this more of a command request :p)
