IDGetter is a great plugin that allows any player (with permission) to get the ID and other information of an item/block that they are holding in their hand. Just hold the item/block in your hand and do /id. You will receive information including the ID of the block/item as well as the meta-data (So if you hold wool it will add a ":" like this 35:4. It will also display the correct name to use for that block/item with the /give command (For example Lily Pads are actually called: "Water Lily". IDGetter can even display the pages of a book in the meta data! As well as the Name and Lore for the item (Of course the name/lore has to be set using a bukkit plugin to view the name/lore.)
Overall IDGetter is an simple yet useful plugin that will help you in the long run.
