Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Posted May 5, 2013@Riddle,
I have to agree with Azurago. If you don't like the way that Grief Prevention is working, find another plugin that accommodates your needs.
If you want to see how players protect or open up a village, explore the Dragon Slayer Extreme Survival server at 198.23.130.217. Villages at Nevermore and Ravencrest are open, villages at Ravine and Kamenev are closed. Other villages are located in unnamed regions, so you would have to find those on your own.

This is a free plugin. free to use and open source. As are many of these plugins. It is also community driven, people like you and me help mold and shape these plugins to what is needed. This villager problem seems to be minor and unimportant in the grand scheme of this plugin. I suggest finding a villager type plugin, or request someone makes a plugin, in the request area, that will do what you are looking for. Also, look up how villager mechanics work so you are more educated in what you want.
These developers deserve a lot of respect for how much time and talent they are giving up for you to use. I would encourage you to respect them and their decision with their plugin, and they will respect and consider your request. Until then take a few days to cool down and act like a mature, responsible server owner that I am sure you can be.

Posted May 5, 2013This is such a load of crockpot. It’s like saying protecting chests shouldn’t work by default because owners can just make thick walls (remember, you can break a block and right click really fast when you have only 1 layer) and make iron doors.
Seriously, just because Villagers don’t allow you to take items out like a chest does, it doesn’t mean you are not taking opportunities away from their owner.
I have no idea why you guys cannot see it. And golly, it’s just one event that needs to be stopped. Right clicking on a villager which is in foreign claim. You do the check when damaging them, just add one more (possibly making a preference by your “I want it to work that way!” responses) and be done with it.

Posted May 5, 2013This is a great plugin, griefing has drop to almost nothing since installing this plugin on my server. i know you already have limited mod support on this plugin, but i was wondering if you can also add support for another mod called Mutant Creatures, so far from my testing the only thing i can see this mod offers griefers is a item dropped by one of the mobs called an Ender-Hand... which allows the used to teleport like an Enderman and also pickup blocks and throw them. Unfortuntly the ender-hand can still do these actions even in a Gierf Prevention claim, and i was hoping you could and some sort of support to prevent this from happening in claim areas? Thanks in advance!

Posted May 5, 2013@ _syh it protects the trapped chest on server.
@riddle -
I disagree with reasoning concerning theft. Next you'll be saying that picking up dropped items on claims is also considered theft.
This plugin does an excellent job of protecting claims and claim blocks. Villager owners are easily able to construct appropriate barriers around either game-spawned villages or thier cured villagers to either open or close access to the public.
If the player doesn't know how to use the tools that are provided in order to protect themselves, I fail to see why it should be the fault of the plugin or developer.

Posted May 4, 2013While technically I know that trades are renewable, I will stand by my definition of using up, because of the increasing difficulty of unlocking trades. It might be trivial to give 1 emerald to a farmer to unlock wheat trade (which is very lucrative) but if you end up with fish or raw chicken trade, it’s way harder to get those items. In that sense, you are using up Villagers – you take away easy trades (or rare but great ones like 1 emerald → 4 redstone for priests) and replace them with hard trades (like 5 diamonds → 1 emerald for blacksmiths).
So in a sense, you are stealing from the owner. You steal their possibilities away and you end up with items they could have gotten. And if you add a fact that many people pick and choose villagers based on their initial trades, moving them with minecarts for later use, your comments with double walls shows a bit of ignorance, I’m sorry. This is technically griefing – a destructive action against owner’s wishes.

You cannot "use up" Villager Trades. Trading will add new Trade possibilities, and once a Villager has a "full set" of trades, it will re-enable previous disabled trades. If anything, trading with another players villagers helps- that player uses their resources,Emeralds, etc. to unlock villager trades, not the owner.
Additionally, if the player that "owns" the villagers wants to prevent trading, they can always seal them up and make them inaccessible to people without permissions in the claim anyway. (In this case it would probably require a double-layer or some other restrictive capability such as a larger surroundings.
(Edit: that said, it would probably make a useful option)

Posted May 4, 2013Okay guys, it’s time you lived by your PREVENTS all forms of grief mantra… please, for the love of god, Villagers have been added in 1.8 beta. It’s time you prevented people from interacting with Villagers which belong to other player’s claim.
Otherwise it’s simply theft. And not even putting them in a house can help – break a block and before it reappears, you can right click the villager and use up their trades. This is simply unacceptable for a plugin which wants to thwart all forms of griefing.

Posted May 4, 2013This is a feature request/suggestion.
I initially installed grief prevention to give less sophisticated players an easier way to make claims than WorldGuard. It works, and I like the other anti-griefing functions it provides. The visual feedback of having visible blocks to show claim boundaries is the feature that makes it easiest for newbies to grasp. However, this same feature also confuses them, as they think those are actual blocks, and then they try to interact with them, which generally just confuses them more. (Note when I say 'unsophisticated', I'm using the term euphemistically for 'too lazy to read any instructions whatsoever'.)
Therefore, I was thinking of ways to make it more obvious that the claim boundary blocks are just markers. What I thought might do the trick would be to have these blocks blink between the marker blocks and whatever block they actually are. Preferably at a reasonable, slow rate, perhaps cycling once per 1 or 2 seconds, or maybe more. I realize this would incur increased server load, so perhaps having the interval adjustable (including a setting of zero to disable completely) in the configs would allow server owners to choose how much impact it would ultimately have. Usually there aren't many people editing claim boundaries at any given time.
Alternatively (or additionally), having the marker blocks disappear after a set time, or when they switch away from the golden shovel might be an easier to implement and less processor intensive way to inform these users that these are merely markers and not actual blocks. I thought I had read of this behavior in the docs, but I have never observed it on my server. The claim blocks always stay visible until another claim or unclaimed area is clicked on with the query tool.
Thanks for the great plugin. I hope you'll consider my suggestion to make it even more user/noob friendly.

If you want to disable Sign Eavesdropping, you can either deny the griefprevention.eavesdrop permission on all players, including administrators/Ops since it will only show the or you can give that permission to every player. Unfortunately that permission effects more than just the sign Eavesdropping functionality. This might be added as a configuration option in a future version. (eg. a 'SignEavesdrop' option to shut off Sign eavesdropping without effecting the other Eavesdrop options)

Posted May 3, 2013Anyone know of a way to turn off Sign Logging?
I have mine set to false " EavesdropEnabled: false" But I still have the higher ranks able to hear the sign speak. Any tips? Or is this not possible. I stream and don't want little secrets of peoples getting out into the world. I know the cost of Grief could rise but I don't want this on.
Thanks for any help. PEACE Tibbs~
