Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

The newer versions of this plugin don't work with Tekkit since it uses AsyncPlayerChatEvent in the PlayerEventHandler but if you use an older version (5.5.1 for 1.2.5) it may work but people have reported it not protecting certain blocks. I haven't tested it though so can't confirm that but I don't know why they would report such a thing if it wasn't true.

Posted Aug 21, 2012Great plugin! I had a player who was banned who we will call PlayerX.. PlayerX got on PlayerY (which has been on the server before) from the same ip and was temp banned for 10 minutes. How do I manage these bans? I have turned Smartban off for now, but how would I unban PlayerY? I can unban PlayerX in essentials, but if try to /unban PlayerY or /unbanip, they're not unbanned, is this not done through essentials? If i'm running a MYSQL Database for GriefPrevention, would the information on banned players be there?
My other question is, you mentioned that players now only get claimblocks if they're moving. Is this still correct, or do you recommend an auto-afk kick? Thanks for the help, the plugin is great!

Posted Aug 20, 2012Hi Bigscary!
I only found your plugin a month or so ago, no idea how I managed until now... I've been looking for exactly this since beta 1.2... It's everything I wish the other land management plugins were, and more. :)
I entered a ticket on github a while ago, but also would like to ask here:
"This has probably been brought up before, but would it be feasible to add a toggle to allow or disallow PvP within admin claims? Either on a claim-by-claim basis or in all adminclaims, whichever is more simple. This would allow for starter towns where new players can learn about or become accustomed to the server, conduct business transactions, etc without fear of attack.
WorldGuard or any number of other plugins can do this, but consolidating it within GriefPrevention would simplify things instead of having to run multiple plugins to perform an action on an already-defined area. GriefPrevention already does such a great job that the only thing I run WorldGuard for is to block PvP in my one starter/banking town.
Would this perhaps be an option for an extension rather than a part of the main plugin?
Thanks for all your efforts!"
I think 'Unwanted PvP in places where fighting shouldn't be allowed' would qualify as a form of grief.
Thanks in advance!

Posted Aug 20, 2012Hi again,
It took me a bit to actually find the details. My server farm is in the UK, so we have a hard time connecting... but they keep up updated with Craftbukkit. I thought we were on 1.3.1 because walking around the world I see the cocoa growing on the jungle trees.
Here's the server specs:

Oh! Now I see it. So this is actually by design - placing a boat requires build permission. That may seem odd at first, but it's an important rule because boats are cheap to make. So a griefer could put like a million boats all over your spawn city, or all over another player's build, if it were not for this rule.
A griefer could still do this in the wilderness, but /restorenature will quickly clean that up.
:)

GP is the business! Forget using 5-6 other plugins when Grief Prevention does it better than all of them combined, in one neat single package! I'll never install anything else as long as bigscary keeps being awesome <3 :D

To me, it looks like maybe you've mismatched versions. If you're running Minecraft 1.2.5, make sure you're using a GriefPrevention which was designed for 1.2.5 (see list at right above).
@Gengarx33
I'm with saintcrime on this. I tried very hard, and I couldn't make that happen, either. I will double-check this again today. If you can provide some more details (if you have any?) that might be helpful. Are you possibly running on a dev build of craftbukkit?

Go to your config file and make sure your world is listed under "claims.worlds".
@netherfoam
That's by design, because bukkit doesn't tell me WHO is activating the dispenser. So then, dispensers only activate when their in a claim (so I can tell who they belong to). This is important, for example, to prevent players from using dispensers to kill animals, dump lava, and so on anonymously.
@Jaladon
I'm going to check into this. Sorry for the trouble. You're correct, that is a GriefPrevention message.
@aroeira
It works pretty well. I'm running a test server now, and I'm aware of at least a couple of nasty bits, which will require blacklisting some specific items, unfortunately. For example, I recently learned that using the philosopher's stone inside someone's land claim will allwo you to change blocks there, even if you don't have permission. Because Bukkit doesn't know the details of any mods, it's impossible for me to actually fix this in GriefPrevention.
This isn't the only type of problem Tekkit has - any public Tekkit server will have serious economy and grief issues unless some items are banned, so I'm planning to develop and release a new plugin specifically for balancing Tekkit. I won't officially start it, though, until I've learned all I need to abou tTekkit, which will take some time. :)
@MustangTim
Easiest way is to set claims require permission to true, then give the griefprevention.claims permission to only registered users.
@JustinM511
Use /ignoreclaims or /ic for short. See admin details page for permission needed.
@TJW28
Let me check on that for you.
@Feaelin
Hmm.. I dunno about that. Would make more sense to make a special area for trading with villagers (for example, by adding villagers to your spawn, which you've already protected with GP). That way you're not changing gameplay except where you're explicit about special rules. Your suggestion would also be very difficult for me to accomplish, I think.

Posted Aug 20, 2012Now that villagers are interactive and somewhat important to game play, I'd be interested in some features designed to protect villagers and villages. I was wondering if we could hook into the world generation when it builds a village and have GP automatically put a admin claim on the village. And then something prevent the villagers being attackable. :)

Posted Aug 20, 2012Hi, There was a bug a while ago where using bonemeal on a saplin would cause the saplin to just disappear inside a claim. This was fixed, but for some reason, seems to be back for me. This only happens inside of claims.
Could just be me, but anyone else experiencing this again?
Thank ;)
