Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Posted Aug 7, 2012I've been trying to make everyone happy and I've discovered that I can't seem to get the lava permissions and tnt permissions right.
You can use tnt, but it then slowly reverts back, regardless of where it is. Is this part of your plugin, or do I need to look elsewhere.

Posted Aug 7, 2012Hey BigScary/Ryan: Any thoughts on to whether or not you'll eventually implement the idea I proposed earlier? (the one using a system similar to Anti-Xray, players can only place build-type blocks in an area [maybe in a specific chunk] up to a certain point until the plugin requires that they make a claim around their build [
and similar to Anti-Xray, the number of blocks they can place before they are forced to make a claim can be related to the number of claim blocks they have available maybe? so that it will stop them before their build gets bigger than the number of blocks they can claim]. Only affects the surfacebuilding underground remains unlimited, and players can still dig, chop trees, and since it only starts blocking placement of blocks after a certain point, people can still build emergency shelters, etc. )The more I think about it, the more benefits I can see for it. It reduces the ability to build ridiculously large structures from the very beginning after razing a forest, limits building excessively from the beginning so it makes the game more challenging, as they have to play longer to build bigger structures (so these players don't create a giant thing and then get bored and quit right after), enforces the usage of Grief Prevention so people don't whine about their stuff getting griefed when they didn't use the plugin (their fault I know...)
and we can locate people's claims easier when they lose their home, in addition, if a server accepts donations for claim blocks, it may better encourage donating to the running costs of the server.One issue I can think of is what happens when they abandon their claim. It may require the deletion of builds which I don't think is something you want.
Let me know where you are in the thinking through of this concept. Thanks! =]

It's working perfectly fine on my server, and I've got the newest builds from both bukkit and grief protection. I'm very happy with the updates. :) so are my users. :DD
I'd give you the ip to register and look at my map, if it didn't come across as blantant advertising. LOL
Multiverse on the other hand - they need to update soon....... :P

Posted Aug 7, 2012I am very interested in a Dynmap and Grief-Prevention plugin that works with the latest version of Grief-Prevention. I found this plugin however, it seems to have stopped working with the latest Grief-Prevention plugin update. Is it possible to produce another update with compatibility with the Dynmap-GriefPrevention plugin found here? Please PM me if this can be done. Thanks!

Posted Aug 7, 2012bigscary, you bring up a good point with minecarts with chests - you clearly wouldn't want players being able to break those (I certainly take advantage of that). However, I can't really ever see a reason to need to protect empty minecarts (I assume they're a separate entity, as they're a separate item?).
Is it common practice to leave your cart on a track, and expect it to be there when you come back? I assumed that on most multiplayer servers, there were lots of tracks used by multiple people in multiple directions, so you just kept your cart on you for when cart travel was more convenient. That's how I've always played.
How do others deal with the issue where multiple (all) players might be using the same track, yet still protect it?
Another question, while I'm here: Is there a way to trust everyone? I'd love to be able to make a subdivision and let everyone use the enchanting table in it, or a chest of 'extras' (both containertrust), or let everyone use a certain lever (pressure plate toggles take up space). I still wouldn't want them damaging them though.
Finally, why are enchanting tables and crafting benches protected? I can't possibly see a way to grief someone by using their table.
Sorry to sound critical; I absolutely love this plugin, and won't run my server without it. I just can't help but open dialogue when the developer is so available for discussion.

Posted Aug 7, 20125.9 Updates!
IMPORTANT CHANGES PLEASE READ
Other Changes
Still to come - a custom slash command to run when a player spams, and support for data values in the mod settings.
@Eyeball114
It looks okay to me. Hmm. Are you sure you're running compatible builds? Check the version list at right and make sure you're not running a 1.3.1 GriefPrevention on a 1.2.5 server, or vice-versa. The last person who reported a problem with the shovel not working had mismatched versions.
@2Andri
If you allow your players to make claims, there's no point in using that option at all (modified or otherwise), because players always have an easy way to work around it by first creating a claim, then making changes, and finally removing the claim. You aren't actually limiting them, just putting a tedious barrier in the way. :\ The option is intended for servers where the server owner and/or admins create claims for players, to ensure they build, mine, etc only in sanctioned areas.

Posted Aug 7, 2012We were using your plugin. And dicided to use the option, that players is only able to build on their claims.
This however made it so that all players had to make claim if they wanted to go on a wood chopping trip into the forest.
Or if they wanted to go on a mining trip.
So my idea was, make it so that they can only set blocks if they own the claim. But destroy block like usual?

No, you can imagine the problem that would cause - I build a track and leave my cart on it, then somebody comes over and steals it. It would be worse if it were a powered or chest cart, because those have inventory as well.
I can require build permission to place a cart, though. Do you think that would be overall better or worse?

Posted Aug 7, 2012Is there a way to allow players to break a minecart within other claims? Most of my tracks are within claims (to prevent someone just digging a hole in the track down to bedrock or into lava), but apparently players can't take their carts with them, leading to a bunch of random carts left everywhere, and people not using the tracks.

Posted Aug 7, 2012So guys, I'm very happy to report that I'm running this on my live test server as well without any issues, despite it being an upgraded (from 1.2.5) world with lots of player data and claims already there. :) Whew, what a relief it was to see it working!
@Lostwave
Thanks for that info, I'm trying to investigate but I'm also under a lot of pressure trying to juggle the 1.3 stuff. :) I haven't forgotten you.
@n33dy1
Did I say that your config.yml was to blame? No, I said that you're running a 1.2.5 plugin on a 1.3.1 server. That "configuration" is not supported. You'll notice the many positive comments where nobody else is having your problem, that's because they listened when I told them it wouldn't work and they shouldn't try it. You posted more than twice, I deleted some. You're done here.
@Dr_Bunsen
See admin details page. Set the chest claim radius to -1.
@Lostwave
WOW. I would have never guessed that a plugin called "Disco Sheep" would somehow undermine an anti grief plugin. :) I'm VERY glad you were able to resolve this!
@DrFusion
Haha, at this moment, I have no idea. That's an excellent question. Probably just got confused while publishing my plugins and put the wrong version number on this one.
@Eyeball114
Maybe check claims enabled worlds config setting? Make sure all your worlds are listed there. If that isn't it, please use PasteBin or something similar to link me to your config file contents, where I might find some clues.
@iTristan
Nosir, that was fixed the day after I released the video. Good eye. :)
@SuperSpyTX
Yes, I will update source today.
