Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Posted Aug 2, 2012@Sinistralis777: I like your idea with giving people access to claims remotely (specifically admin claims). You ask for the ability to set people for ignoreclaims, that sounds a bit dangerous though.
What about splitting up the adminclaims permission bigscary? Two separate permissions, one that lets users make and edit adminclaims, and one that lets users build in them. Then we could remotely just give a user that permission, and they have access to adminclaims, without being able to change them.
On a completely separate note, how long do you expect till this mod is ready for 1.3, once Bukkit is updated?

Posted Aug 2, 2012Hello,
I have a flat creative world where recently players are not able to break down as far as they used to be able to and they are complaining. I think it is coded to disallow them from going below 2 on the y axis. However they are wanting to go down one more block as that is where they used to be able to put things which they no longer can. Shouldn't this value hook to the config value for the max depth or is it hard coded to try and prevent people from falling into the void maybe? Because in the flat world they can go down 1 more block before hitting bedrock.
Thanks!

Posted Aug 1, 2012Hey Bigscary,
Is there any way to enable surface explosions within a specific world?
Trying to add http://www.planetminecraft.com/project/bomberman-playable/ to my server, but the 'levels' are deployed by destruction due to tnt explosions. The world that I imported containing that map does not have an entry in griefprevention.claims.worlds
However, when an explosion occurs above 'surface' only the explosion occurs, not the 'damage' required to deploy the levels.
I did a test explosion near y=0 and it destroyed the block correctly, so I believe the explosion block damage prevention is narrowed to this plugin.

I am going through all of Tekkit's items and seeing what works and what doesnt.
I got everything you mentioned to work. (The gui still shows up with the rotary but is isn't functional).
The computer items on the other hand appear to be impossible to protect.
Edit: A major issue is he seems to edit the yaml everytime the server runs by casting it to an int, which is bad. A lot of tekkit items require metadata. It works until the server decides to cast that value back into an int, then it stops working again.
Also, this is the only mod I know of that tracks pvp combat. Having a section to disable /commands, or even a way to assign a person to a new permissions group temporarily during combat would be VERY freaking awesome.

My understanding is that you have a tekkit server with grief prevention, are you able to protect nuclear reactor, rotary macerator, compressor ? I can't and I don't know why...

Posted Aug 1, 2012I've just installed Grief Prevention and I run Tekkit, I tried to add nuclear reactor,nuclear chamber, rotary macerator to the Mods.BlockIdsRequiringContainerTrust list but they can still be accessible by other player. Every other items that I put in the list are protected except except those mention above.
Any idea why ?

Will do. Is there a solution to the /ignore claims thing I mentioned?
What if I made a formula for you? The only variable you need to keep track of is total number of owned blocks, which I assume you can grab since you have abandon all claims. I assume you are using a claim object of some kind so a countBlocks method wouldn't be that hard. (I'd do it myself but I don't know jack about plugin development)

You might be onto something, there. Let me consider it for a while. :)
@laRoux87
I think you can see why I haven't provided this, it seems you may be the only server owner who really wants it. :) Imagine the case where it's not a fair fight - three guys in diamond armor ambush every online player they can find, take all their best stuff, and leave. I imagine a lot of your players would feel victimized and maybe even quit the server. If you want to do this, I think listing all the blocks you want to allow breakable is the right thing to do. Probably, there are a few you still don't want to be breakable, like maybe iron doors or redstone circuitry (the latter is very hard to repair for complicated setups). Anyway, making all blocks breakable eliminates the "creative building" part of siege mode. Attackers won't have to look for weaknesses, which makes the whole thing a LOT less interesting.
Good luck. :) If you do decide to do this, please let me know how it works out and what your players think of it.
@Sinistralis777
I think that might be a bit much to code, I doubt many would use it. May I suggest instead that you change the max accrued blocks to a relatively low number, then take server donations or diamond blocks in exchange for administrative block grants (/acb)?
@Bud1980
Sorry, it's not an anti grief feature. I think someone is working on an extension plugin for GP that would allow you to add "flags" to give special behavior to certain claims. Stay tuned. :)
@haynzee
Sorry, there's no way to do that exactly, but there's a good workaround. If you want to prevent players from making claims in key areas like your arena or city which is currently protected with WorldGuard, the easiest way is to drop an administrative claim overtop the world guard region, then /trust public. This way, GP isn't really doing anything there except for preventing other players from making land claims.
@Sinistralis777
Thank you very much, Sinistralis. :) Rather than preaching to the choir here, may I suggest you post your praise in your favorite Minecraft server administration forums? It would help me a LOT if you spread the word.

Posted Aug 1, 2012For those of you running Tekkit servers, Grief Prevention is a MUST HAVE. It even protects from Nukes, Catalysts, everything! You don't need to edit a single thing for it to prevent block destruction. (As he stated though, Admins need to add chests/redpower inputs/etc)
My 1 suggestion is you should be able to use /ignoreclaims on a player. (There is currently no way to protect a quarry except for an Administrative Claim with an Admin Buildcraft)

Posted Aug 1, 2012@bigscary Hiya I wondered is there or could you add an option that would only allow a claim in a specific area. Basically I have a "Free build" area where I allow people to make their own claims. However they are able to claim outside those areas but cant build because world guard stops them. I just wondered if you had an option or could make one like the admin claim but basically set an area and allow anyone to claim within it?
Cheers

Posted Jul 31, 2012Could you add the option to have a formula for cost and selling? (Selling could be a simple Cost / 2 or something).
Basically make it so it gets progressively more expensive to buy claims.

Posted Jul 31, 2012I love this plugin! We started using it on my Survival server a few weeks ago and it's amazing how well it works. We have actually had people come on and say "I'm leaving! It's too hard to grief here!" Love it!
I recently opened a PvP server and have been using the /siege mode. Players really enjoy it, but we feel like it's too limiting for the style of PvP we wish to offer. I turned off chest protection to allow for looting, but now people just build a structure out of hard blocks and put a hard block over each of their chests, making impenetrable and unlootable homes. This really takes away from the PvP aspect.
I am trying to make it so that all blocks are breakable during /siege and then we require players to simply fix any grief after the siege is over. This style is much more suited to what we would like and the rest of the GP function are amazing, but I was wondering if there was a way to make it so we could simply turn off block protection during siege mode! This would make it so much easier than having to go in and list out every block as a soft block!
Would this be possible (or already available and I've simply missed it!)?

Posted Jul 31, 2012Okay. I only ask, because I also want to encourage the use of using claims as well. Since we are a pretty small server, we don't get many if any griefers, so people don't feel like placing claims around their stuff, and then when griefing inevitably does happen, they are all up in arms. Or sometimes they lose their homes because they build so far away, and I'm able to find the stuff they claimed, but not the stuff they didn't.
My idea of how it might've worked is to have the plugin keep players from placing certain blocks outside their claims (ones that are commonly used in building), such as stonebricks, woodplanks, etc. Cobble, and dirt building would be fine for building makeshift shelters, etc. It would just limit the placing of blocks (and maybe have a configurable number of blocks they could place before the plugin stops them and asks them to place a claim around their build) and this would only affect the surface, so they could still create elaborate mines underground. Digging and mining would be fine.
I guess in a way it would be similar to your Anti-Xray plugin where they are limited in the amount of certain blocks they can place on the surface. It's a half-baked idea though. I have no idea the amount of coding required to make that happen.
Anyway, thanks for your response!

It means no building outside of claims, even in survival mode (as opposed to creative mode servers, where that's the default rule). It will probably cause more harm than good if you turn it on, because exploring and mining in the wilderness is a big part of the usual survival experience.
I don't think there's any (automated) way at all to eliminate the problem you've described. However I think you'll find that /restorenature makes undoing ugly or half-finished abandoned builds extremely easy and fast. It repairs an entire chunk with a single right click, never changes claimed blocks, and doesn't regenerate the chunk (that alone makes it superior to other repair tools from other plugins).
