Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Sounds like a memory issue to me, have you tried checking how high your RAM gets when trying to start the server up? Usually plugins like this take up quite a bit of memory so I wouldn't be surprised if it was a RAM issue

Posted Jul 19, 2012Hello,
For the eavesdropping feature, I am hoping for a way to catch the Herochat messages after they toggle private chat on. For example you can just do /msg ryvix and press enter and it will be like switching channels and all your messages will go right to that person as private chat without having to type any command in front of it. So therefore it does not catch it. Same if you do /r and press enter, it will just switch you to the last person who messaged you. I am guessing there is some way to hook into the Herochat API but I haven't looked yet but I certainly will if you don't plan to. =)
Also, I don't know if you are interested but I have added a customization awhile ago which was requested on my server. It is a /claiminfo command which shows the Area, width, length, and total blocks it would cost and could show height too I suppose, and whatever else. Also if you hold shift while right clicking with the info tool it will display the info for it as well. I have it in a fork on Github if you wanted to see it. I am planning to add some other custom features as well but haven't had a chance yet.
I like that you added the /claimslist command and MySQL, thanks =)

Posted Jul 18, 20125.4 Updates!
@Esaych
Sorry Esaych, without more information about what's actually happening at the time, the only thing I can promise is that I'll think on it and try to guess the problem. But I will do that. :) Does this happen every time you boot up? Are you sure it's GP this time? About how long does the server run before you see this?
@Steelsouls
Yeah if you give players (especially griefers) an inch, they'll maximize that opportunity. I try not to give them any inches, but in some scenarios it's very difficult to distinguish between a player doing something normal, and one who's trying to grief, cheat, or exploit. I think this is one of the more "gray" areas.

This is very true, I guess it makes more sense to just force people to be more careful about hostile players rather than do a ton of extra coding and opening up possibilities for exploit. Thanks again for including my permission request so quickly.

Are there any other warnings you're getting? This isn't very specific and seems like it could be caused by any number of things, plugins being just one of them.

Posted Jul 18, 2012Hi everyone, I'm aware of the "player has negative claim blocks" problem. I have not yet figured out the root issue, but I am investigating. For now, I recommend /acb to give players bonus blocks to bring them back to zero so that they can continue to play and claim more land.
@Eggerd
Hello from the U.S. :) Sorry, I won't add a feature to stack claims on top of each other, or to not run claims up to the building limit (sky). There are many reasons. Performance, code complexity (potential for bugs), players using it without realizing it leaves them open to grief, it would be hard to use, because it would require slash commands rather than the shovel, etc.
You mentioned that some claims are overlapping. This should not be the case, because it should be impossible to create a claim underneath or above another. Please double-check your claims for this, and tell me if you find any claims which are actually overlapping.
@marcovit66
It's been stick instead of string for a few versions. :) You can change back to string in your config file, but that may be a bad idea after the 1.3 patch.
Also are you making the claim smaller? There is a minimum claim size in your config file. It applies not only to new claims, but also resized claims. By default, every claim must be at least 10 blocks wide and 10 blocks long. You can reduce it, but be careful you don't make it so small that griefers can start sprinkling tiny claims everywhere.
@myCraftServer
I added that in 5.3. See change logs for now, I will update the full documentation soon (maybe after I fix this negative claim blocks bug, though).
@Steelsouls
Dropping directly on the spawn shouldn't work anyway, because nobody can pick up items within 10 seconds of respawning. Even allowing players to collect dirt or logs while invincible might be a problem, because players would abuse the opportunity to go gather a giant stack of logs with their fists while safe from PvP. :\
@re4397
This is a temporary (and minor) problem. I'm sure your pain in replacing this plugin with 5-10 others to do the same job would be worse than waiting for my fix.

Thank you very much for responding to my concerns and including my request in the very next update! You are a fantastic plugin developer :) Now that you put it that way, I agree with you about the PvP idea. Perhaps instead of a specific list of items that enable, maybe a list of excluded items. Or maybe even just exclude junk items by default on your end and not make it customizable. I was simply trying to think of a solution to somebody dropping a piece of dirt on a new spawn and being able to kill them when they pick it up. Maybe just exclude dirt, seeds, cobblestone, flowers as enabling pvp if they're the first things picked up. Like you said though, it could be a lot of coding and it's not something that's really pressing or that important. Keep up the awesome work!

Posted Jul 18, 2012Hello, We're really desperate to finda suitable Tekkit Supporting Anti Grief Plugin. Would it be at all possible for you to support Tekkit with your plugin?
Lots of Tekkit Servers have the problem of protection. As far as I can tell, there are no good plugins that protect well. GriefPrevention will be the best way to go for Tekkit Protection as it's simple and easy to use. Thanks, -Daniel

It is not longer String, Use a stick.
Your claim needs to be at least 10 x 10, You can change the size in the config file should you wish to.

Posted Jul 18, 2012Since 5.2, i can no longer see claims by using a string. I got the admin.* permission.
Other players can no longer see their claim limit either. A other bug i found is that if i try to resize a claim.
It says i am resizing it but when i set the 2e cornor it gives a message that the claim isnt big enough.

Thanks

Posted Jul 17, 2012Nice plugin! But, is there a way to include the height while creating a claim? My main problem is that every claim goes from the creating point up to sky - and in this case, some claims are overlapping.
I think it would be very nice if GP includes the height difference of the to creating points and if there is a option, to set a maximum height of a claim.
Greetings from Germany ;-)
