Extra Hard Mode
Extra Hard Mode changes the game rules to create NEW, INTERESTING CHALLENGES for players who have mastered the core game. Unlike Mojang's "hard" mode or other plugins' "hardcore" modes which just punish you more for making mistakes without actually changing game mechanics, Extra Hard Mode delivers interesting new challenges for advanced players.

Recommended Plugins
- Make tree logs and branches fall when chopped with GraviTree. Set "FallingLogsDamagePlayers" to true in its config for an extra challenge!
- For anti-grief, avoid plugins that disable explosions entirely, because that will undermine the cave-in mechanic and the new improved TNT.
- Avoid plugins which allow players to teleport themselves out of danger when they're in combat or lost. Especially avoid plugins which add commands like /home, /back, and /tpa, since they will undermine the difficulty VERY much. Consider instead a teleportation plugin like Population Density, which allows players to teleport only between teleportation posts it places on the surface every 400 blocks.
- You might want to look into balancing villagers. Having diamond gear tradable for very easily farmable materials will undermine the difficulty. I use Rebalance Villagers to make the trades harder.
Metrics
This plugin utilizes Hidendra's plugin metrics system, which means that the following information is collected and sent to mcstats.org:
- A unique identifier
- The server's version of Java
- Whether the server is in offline or online mode
- The plugin's version
- The server's version
- The OS version/name and architecture
- The core count for the CPU
- The number of players online
- The Metrics version
- Config options that are activated, allowing me to see what people use (or don't)
You can disable the stat collection via /plugins/PluginMetrics/config.yml if you wish. If you want to see the stats, you can go here

Thank you for reporting this. This should happen when you fire a potion from a dispenser. I have included a fix for the next update. You might want to try if firing a potion from a dispenser causes the error for you and if not, get back to me.
@Nemirisu
Most of the functionality of ExtraHardMode should work right out of the box. I'll add support for more ores and potentially more tools for the hardened stone feature. If your mod has tools that don't trigger BlockBreaking Events, that mod has to be customized to work with bukkit and Ehm. For example IndustrialCraft, but you can get a version that throws the events.
@doorknock23
I will support a modified version of IndustrialCraft and RedPower. I might look into Metallurgy, but that might work out of the box. Mo Creatures shouldn't have any incompatibilities, that mod just adds animals?
@Heifinator
Maybe.

Wait for the next update for mod support. It works with tekkit and ftb right now but it may leave you desiring until the next update when it will register ores, etc.

Posted Feb 15, 2013I love this mod. Not all the features but that's what the config is for. I really like the ability to make other blocks besides sand fall. I always thought it was silly that people could make dirt bridges.
Anyway, before I continue, i want to see if any of these plugins/MC port mods will conflict with this one: (Please let me know before i waste a lot of my time) Thank you!
Mods: IC2 Mo' Creatures Metallurgy
Plugins: BloodMoon ( i want to use to make the monsters tougher), Catacombs, AngryWolves, GravesPlus (I have the chance to lose items in ExtraHardMode at 0), InfiniteStrongholds, Likeaboss, mcMMO, RealisticTorches (If I disable torches going out in rain in ExtraHardMode), NETFire, RepairRecipe, SpawnMob, ZombieResurrection (players spawn a zombie with their face when they die),

Currently, the incentives are lots of nether wart (which isn't farmable, making this the only way to get it), lots of gunpowder (much more than from creepers), and lots of glowstone (it never runs out, because blazes drop it). The ghast tear would add something more, but there's definitely need for even more incentives, I think.
@stuckatwork
It's about how many non-empty slots you have in your inventory, with filled armor slots counting double. I tried to set it up so that someone who's geared up for a mining expedition or who's returning from one would not be able to swim.
@Diemex
I think it might be a little confusing for everyone to see your updates, when they're not made available via the downloads. :)

Not sure if anyone is interested, but that feature is possible, with challenging enchants on the armor, via DiabloDrops.

I'm currently stuck at the 2.8 sourcecode, because bigscary hasn't uploaded 3.0 yet. So I don't know how he implemented it, I haven't even tried it out yet. Potentially I might change the mechanic a bit and while adding customizability.
edit:
What I'm working on: (What's going to be in the next update)
Bigscary needs to add me to the project first so I can upload my builds. Also I have to wait till I have the sourcecode vor version 3.0, my sources are still from 2.8.

Posted Feb 14, 2013It would be nice to configure the weight at which a player becomes too heavy to swim. I was able to swim with full diamond gear, and a few iron/gold block stacks. More stacks made me too heavy. How is weight calculated? I would like to give each item I care about different weights, and leave the others alone.
Thank you for your development on this plugin, and changing so many different aspects of the game for the better!

The reason I didn't think of using a ghasttear is that I haven't gotten a single ghasttear in the 3 months I have run my server. Adding it as a rare drop to pigzombies might work. I have to think about the nether a bit, I went there once to get some netherwarts, but every attempt going in there after that has been awarded with me just loosing stuff. In vanilla minecraft you only go into the nether to get some glowstone and maybe farm some witherskulls, I need to come up with a very big incentive to make players want to go in there with the extremely high risk of dying.

Are you on the latest version? The ender dragon has been changed a lot. You might also watch them fight the dragon - if you see a way that a player is somehow making the fight easy, then post that information here so that the dragon can be adjusted to thwart that strategy.
Also there was a plan that using the end portal would require you to use a ghast tear, which can be hard to get. That would at least slow players who want to "farm" the dragon down. However right now I'm not planning to do any further work - Diemex will likely take over the project.
Hey Diemex, I like the ghast tear idea better (could be added as a rare drop to zombie pigmen) because it gives players yet another incentive to try the nether. On my test server, players simply don't go there because it's too hard - so I've been looking for new ways to coax them inside.

Posted Feb 14, 2013I use this for the Nether and the End / Ender Dragon. My server requires players to work their way up an achievement based ladder, with all progress being entirely relevant to those two goals. There is no way for a player to circumvent this system, so to date, no one has defeated the dragon, though two groups of 4 have tried.
The more established players are currently gearing up for a third attempt. ;)
If players are easily defeating the dragon then I dare say you give out enchants / xp on your server way too easily and/or diamonds are too easy to obtain. Without clear progression and a real challenge, you offer players nothing new.
Or in other words, this plugin is fantastic in the right hands.

bigscary originally planned to require you to pay some kind of price before entering the end. I might have an idea to still make that work, haven't tried my idea, but if it works then I could also add a timeout for specific players, or just make them pay something (configurable) to enter the end, maybe a diamond or something else which is rare.
