Extra Hard Mode
Extra Hard Mode changes the game rules to create NEW, INTERESTING CHALLENGES for players who have mastered the core game. Unlike Mojang's "hard" mode or other plugins' "hardcore" modes which just punish you more for making mistakes without actually changing game mechanics, Extra Hard Mode delivers interesting new challenges for advanced players.

Recommended Plugins
- Make tree logs and branches fall when chopped with GraviTree. Set "FallingLogsDamagePlayers" to true in its config for an extra challenge!
- For anti-grief, avoid plugins that disable explosions entirely, because that will undermine the cave-in mechanic and the new improved TNT.
- Avoid plugins which allow players to teleport themselves out of danger when they're in combat or lost. Especially avoid plugins which add commands like /home, /back, and /tpa, since they will undermine the difficulty VERY much. Consider instead a teleportation plugin like Population Density, which allows players to teleport only between teleportation posts it places on the surface every 400 blocks.
- You might want to look into balancing villagers. Having diamond gear tradable for very easily farmable materials will undermine the difficulty. I use Rebalance Villagers to make the trades harder.
Metrics
This plugin utilizes Hidendra's plugin metrics system, which means that the following information is collected and sent to mcstats.org:
- A unique identifier
- The server's version of Java
- Whether the server is in offline or online mode
- The plugin's version
- The server's version
- The OS version/name and architecture
- The core count for the CPU
- The number of players online
- The Metrics version
- Config options that are activated, allowing me to see what people use (or don't)
You can disable the stat collection via /plugins/PluginMetrics/config.yml if you wish. If you want to see the stats, you can go here

Posted Jan 5, 2013Not a single function of the plugin, correct. I can mine stone freely, and dirt doesn't fall, despite all of those things being in the config and having worked previously before. I'm fairly certain the plugin is fine and it's on our end, but as I said, having removed all other plugins and special .Jar files, I can't imagine what's still preventing this plugin's behavior.

It doesn't work = nothing works? Not a single function of the plugin?

Posted Jan 4, 2013I'm experiencing a problem that's leaving me at a loss of words. Extra Hard Mode (2.1) ran perfectly fine, and all was good. Added more mods, still works fine, all is good. Then our network administrator installed Transporter to link our servers together via chat and warps. Then I come to find out that Extra Hard Mode no longer works. It loads correctly with zero errors, and is listed as it should be using /plugins.
So, I do the sensible thing and remove the other mods one by one. With ONLY 'Extra Hard Mode' on the server, it still doesn't work. I take off Spigot and go back to standard Craft Bukkit (1.4.6 R0.3) and it still doesn't work. How does something that formerly worked perfectly all of a sudden not work with NO other mods present, and all the while is loading perfectly fine in the console with no errors? How does this happen? I'm simply at a loss. I have no idea.
Any thoughts?

I tried with chrome while being logged in, I tried with Firefox without being logged in. It's not in the files tab. It says 17 files are availible and 2.1 is the latest uploaded on the 17. Dez.

They take a while to show up in the list at right, but you can get them earlier by clicking the blue "files" link at the top of the page.
@Byamarro
Yep, world guard has that problem. You can disable the enhanced explosions in EHM's config file (see "workaroundotherpluginsbugs = true", I think).
@tiwar
I'm not changing the way hunger works with this plugin. The vanilla behavior is that players use the most hunger while moving around and doing stuff like jumping, sprinting, breaking blocks, fighting, etc. According to the wiki, you also lose hunger bar while just standing around, it's just very slow. So if you're certain it's totally stopped, look into other plugins you've installed for the reason. :)
@MrMightyGnome
Sorry to disappoint you. :\ If you're really, REALLY upset over this, there's always the option to customize the plugin by downloading the source code (see blue repository link at the top of this page).

well its not really fitting to my hardcore zombie survival server.. its really hard to get started which is a problem and this plugin makes it more realistic, i just dont like the fact that the "hard" stone isnt configurable as much.

They just shouldn't mine smoothstone, it's that easy. I don't do it, hardly anyone on my server does it. That's the moral of the news. Or use tnt instead of a pickaxe to mine.

Posted Jan 3, 2013With this update, you should go into your config file and set "workaroundotherpluginsbugs" to FALSE, unless you have a problematic anti-grief plugin like WorldGuard or EssentialsProtect installed.
2.2 Updates!
@MrMightyGnome
Just turn off the hardened stone setting, you'll get the same results - players tunneling everywhere. :)
@kontu
Nope, that didn't work, unfortunately. Due to the bukkit bug, there seems to be no way for me to change what items drop as a result of breaking wheat/grass/netherwart/etc.
Diemex, I couldn't get the half slab problem you described to reproduce. Please try with the latest version and let me know if you still have the problem. :)

Posted Jan 3, 2013well, can there be still a ratio config where you can control how faster or slower an iron/diamond pickaxe gets destroyed by digging "hard" stone?

Posted Jan 3, 2013Hey all, sorry for the delay, holidays and all. :) Hope you all had a great time! I am working on a version compatible with 1.4.6. In the meantime, I expect most of the plugin will work just fine without an update. Please understand - seeing log spam doesn't necessarily mean that the plugin is completely broken. It could mean that there's only a minor, ignorable problem. Judge for yourself based on what you actually see in game whether you have a serious problem or not. :) I hope to get the new version out soon!
@mrhelton123
Thanks, I'll check on that when building the new version.
@Wpnman99
Meh, I dunno. I'm thinking players wouldn't discover it, and if they did, it's just a very mechanical feature. If you come up with something that requires a little more creativity on the part of the player, let me know. :)
@Diemex
Half slabs: No it isn't. Let me see what it will take to fix it.
Spawn rates: There's a monster spawn multiplier in the config file. The default is for double monsters under sea level. So I haven't changed the way monsters spawn from Vanilla at all - only increased the number that spawn together. If you want to further control monster spawns, there are MANY plugins which will do that for you.
Difficulty: I run my test server on hard mode, but I think normal mode would still be very challenging. The zombie pigs are intentionally difficult - the nether is in many ways safer than the normal world, so larger amounts of stronger monsters ensures that players who want to get the goods from the nether can't just walk in there with the same gear they'd use for cave diving. If you're running on hard mode, I recommend a full suit of iron armor with good defensive enchants for a player's first nether exploration.
Ghasts: They're extremely difficult to kill. There's no "good" strategy except to run like hell. A player who is both very skilled and a little lucky could succeed by reflecting fireballs or by using a fishing rod + sword combination. The idea is for one of the monsters to be horrifying, and the ghast is the one I chose for that role. :)
Dirt and torches: Yep, that's a Vanilla feature. Whether it's by design or a bug is a matter of opinion.
Dirt piston door: Yeah, I could potentially fix it, but it would be a lot of work to fix an issue that few players will notice, and there's an easy workaround (use sand or gravel instead).
Fireworks: Yeah I really don't know what to do with fireworks. Probably nothing related to difficulty, so I'll likely leave them alone. They were just added to the game for show, so I don't think they're important to consider for this plugin.
Thanks for all your thoughtful comments! I'm very glad you like the plugin. :)
@N1T3SLAY3R
It's not possible for me to fix the world guard bug. However there's an option in my config file to work around that problem, which turns off all the enhanced explosions (kind of a bummer). I recommend that you switch your anti grief from WorldGuard to GriefPrevention, which doesn't have the problem.
@draganot
I liked that idea for a moment, but then I figured giving players a way to spawn monsters at will would be potentially handing them a way to build an effective monster grinder. :\ Let me know if you have other ideas for fireworks!
@MrMightyGnome
It has to break fast, otherwise players who tunnel get enough iron to replace their pickaxe and continue tunneling indefinitely. The "softer" pickaxe ensures that tunneling is too costly to be practical.
@MrMightyGnome
Nope, no limits on enchanting items. :) If a player fights enough bad guys to get awesome enchants despite not being able to build a working monster grinder, then he deserves to enjoy his rewards.
@DerPragmat
Did you mean 1.4.6, maybe? It could be a bug with the new version. I have to test a bit and get a compatible version out to you guys.
@DerPragmat
Very glad you figured it out!
@kontu
Maybe! Thanks, I'll try it. :)
@Diemex
Hmm no squids? I'll check on it.
@Diemex
I'll consider on the cave thing. Maybe in caves, they won't teleport you. It's not cool to be teleported all the way out of a cave just for fighting an enderman. They used to teleport you to them, that was my original design. The problem was that this gave them lots of free hits on you, which was unfair.

Explosions are broken as I have stated a few posts down. Charged creepers don't explode on dmg, blazes don't explode when killed and magmacubes dont explode when hit, I think blazes dont split either. That makes it a lot easier.

Nvm, i found the cause. It was not on the plugins side. Personal Pickup interferes with the block break event that causes stone to turn into cobble, and with stone being unbreakable with stone + wood tools.
