What is Factions?

With this plugin players group up in Factions. You claim land as your own and build your base. Factions is a self serve anti griefing system. Leaders control who can can edit their faction land.

Factions is also about diplomacy and war. You declare wars and forge alliances. You fight over land and manage your monetary expenses.

Install

Stop your server.
Put MassiveCore.jar in your plugins folder. Download MassiveCore here on BukkitDev.
Put Factions.jar in your plugins folder.
Start your server again.
Configure (Optional)

New In Factions 2.8

Reworked Commands - /f rank, /f invite, /f flag and /f perm.
Added Commands - /f setpower, /f status, /f unstuck and /f tt.
WorldGuard - Readded a simple integration.
Tab Completion - Tab completion now available for everything!
Interactive Text - Clickable buttons for list and help commands.
1.8 Titles - Optionally used for territory info.
Animals Flag - New flag similar to the Monsters flag.
Performance - Further work on improved performance.
Bug Fixes - Loads of minor bugs were fixed.

Any current way to edit a plyers power? Add / decrease power?

If not, please help me push for this, there are many things that can be done with this!

Based on that stack trace, mChat is directly accessing the Factions configuration to modify a value which is no longer in the 1.7/1.8 branch as of Factions 1.7.7, which came out in early September. The problem is entirely on them. They could easily address it by simply checking if that field exists in our configuration before trying to change it, and then simply not doing whatever witchcraft they would otherwise do with it.

Is there away to completely disable protection and land claiming commands in this plugin?

Factions Protection: false

completely rendering all claim, protection commands useless?

Alright I've figured out the issue to this comment: http://dev.bukkit.org/server-mods/factions/?comment=2888

If the channel that you're trying to apply tags to uses the format {default} they will not parse. However if you format the channels individually, they will parse just fine.

We are trying to set up a server and are having a problem... Factions set up by new players are not being saved when the server shuts down. We can do /f save and that works but we are concerned that we will lose all the faction stuff if the server crashes or something.

Is the a way to set up an auto save or something?

Absolutely LOVE this plugin.

The update speed is phenomenal, and I am pleased to report no glitches whatsoever.

A quick suggestion, though: Would it be possible to modify the behavior of iron golems created by players to attack members of enemy factions on sight?

Nothing has changed related to chat in several releases now. The most recent was 1.6.9 / 1.7.6 back in August:

Update to work with CraftBukkit 1.3.1-R1.0+; PlayerChatEvents updated to AsyncPlayerChatEvents

The old chat events were deprecated and don't play well with plugins using the newer async chat events. Best guess (without having checked as I'm not that interested) is that mChat is still monitoring the old deprecated synchronized chat events. Whatever the case, I'm not interested in looking into it or implementing a workaround for just that one plugin.

EDIT: actually on second glance the last was 1.7.7 which did drastically change (and simplify) chat integration in the 1.7 branch. Of course, you haven't given anything remotely close to specifics on what's broken related to mChat anyway, just a vague "it's broken".

The latest two releases in the 1.7/1.8 branch break mChat. I know you plugin devs get ragey when we ask you to support another plugin, but the mChat guy has already stated he won't fix compatibility so you're our last hope. Could you pwetty please fix it? :)

Alternatively, could someone point me to a viable mChat alternative? I just want colored tags.

PS: Thanks for updating for the 1.4.5 R1 so quickly! :D

Now that a stable RB of CraftBukkit is out (a Beta would have been sufficient as well), updated releases of Factions to fix that EntityChangeBlockEvent error:

Release 1.6.9.4

Release 1.8.0

1.8.0 (latest in the 1.7.x branch) is now considered stable rather than beta, but bear in mind that the changes from the 1.6.x branch are still undocumented except in the previous 1.7.x file listings. You should also be sure to read the other warnings we show on the file listing itself. You still need to consider carefully as indicated if updating from a 1.6.x release.

Could you possibly add support for Mo' Creatures? That would be great! As of now, it doesn't seem to work on my Mo' Creatures Bukkit server...

I have factions installed and it works but it has f in the begging of a factions then r at the end of a factions any reason why
