bPermissions
bPermissions
Welcome to bPermissions, a Superperms Manager for Bukkit! bPermissions focuses on being unique from the rest of the Permission managers. It's very simple to set up and use, it's lightning fast, fully featured, and has a great support team!
Some features:
- bPermissions has a gui client specifically designed to make running a server so easy that you'll forget that you ever used any other permissions plugin. Get it here!
- bPermissions has a unique command structure, never before seen in a permission manager. It's best used for adding lots of nodes to a user or group from the console or in-game, less typing!
- bPermissions has everything you would expect from a Permissions manager. Prefix and suffix support, inheritance, per-player permissions, multiworld support, promotion/demotion tracks, and even group priorities for multi-group setups.
- Note - bPermissions only defines prefixes and suffixes. You need a chat plugin such as bChatManager for them to show up in chat.
Commands
Say you have a user called 'Bob' and you want to put him in the group 'admin' and give him the prefix 'awesome'.
- /world yourmainworld - selects the world "yourmainworld"
- /user bob - selects the user "bob"
- /user setgroup admin - set bob's group as "admin"
- /user meta prefix awesome - set bob's prefix to "awesome"
You can do the same with groups!
- /world yourmainworld - again, selects the world
- /group admin - selects the group "admin"
- /group addgroup moderator - makes the admin group inherit from the moderator group
- /group meta prefix &c[Admin] - sets the admin prefix to "&c[Admin]"
Some other commands are as follows
- /permissions (or /bperms,/bp,/p) - general commands for bPermissions are prefixed by this
- /permissions import pex - import a pex permissions.yml in the pex folder
- /permissions reload - reloads your bPermissions files
- /permissions save - if auto-save is false, this saves your perms
- /permissions backup - backup your permissions
- /permissions helpme - for the lazy among you, this spews out some basic permissions files into your folder.
In order to use these commands, you'll need the permissions node bPermissions.admin
For configurable /promote and /demote tracks, you'll want to use permissions tracks. To read about those, visit this page
Want more commands? We have some others over on the commands page. Check 'em out!
Editing Files
bPermissions creates per world groups.yml and users.yml files in the bPermissions folder, which allow you to configure permissions on a per world basis.
Because bPermissions was designed to be configured largely via commands, bPermissions will often overwrite changes to these files especially if you /reload or restart the server.
If you've edited the files, you MUST use /permissions reload to load the modified files into the server, otherwise the permissions changes won't apply. Because a standard /reload unloads all plugins like a server stop, we cannot tell the difference between them and this will overwrite changes to your files with whatever the server last stored.
World mirroring
Worlds are mirrored like so:
world_mirroring_to: world_mirroring_from world_nether: world world_the_end: world
This duplicates the whole config for that world. Currently there's no way to have just the users or the groups mirrored, stay tuned for an update that adds this!
bPermissions and EssentialsChat
Allow me to put this issue to bed. Essentials Chat + bPermissions works for prefix and color.
This guide is for current users of EssentialsChat and want to use bPermissions along with it.
Players have colored rank prefixes and faction chat modes are also colored. All text can be colored by the players too using color codes such as &c.
bPermissions\world\groups.yml ( code snippet )
default: default groups: ## Peasant ## default: permissions: - group.default - group.userannouncer - group.userauction groups: - userannouncer - userauction meta: priority: '100' ## Citizen ## rank1: permissions: - group.default - group.rank1 groups: - default meta: priority: '200'
It has nothing configured for prefix but the group names are important (default, rank1)
Essentials\config.yml ( Code Snippet )
change-displayname: true #add-prefix-suffix: false player-commands: - chat.color - chat.format - chat.shout - chat.question chat: radius: 0 group-formats: default: '&8&lPeasant &r&8{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' rank1: '&8&lCitizen &r&7{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' moderator: '&e&l[Mod] &r&3{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' admin: '&c&l[Admin] &r&e{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}'
Please direct all other Essentials support to their official support networks.
How do I get support?
First, we highly recommend you go read the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, there's a few options of support.
- Visit the #bananacode irc channel on irc.esper.net. Just head there, as your question, and wait for someone to help you. It might be a while before you get an answer, so be patient!
- You can file a ticket. This is recommended if you don't have the time to hang around in the IRC or you have a bug report. Be prepared to check back to the ticket though, and make sure you attach your bPermissions groups and users yml files to the ticket.
- Comment on the bPermissions main page.
Note that as there's only one (slightly inactive) maintainer at the moment, any support queries may take some time.
However you choose to get support, "pls dont use txt spk," and make sure you use actual grammar.
I'm a developer!
If you wish to hook your plugin into bPermissions, please see the Developer Page for more information! If you wish to contribute code to bPermissions, fork us on GitHub!
Development builds of this project can also be downloaded from GitHub now. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff, and are possibly buggy. Use them at your own risk.

Posted Jul 15, 2013Okay, so I'm looking at the Craftbukkit command nodes right now on the wiki, and some of them say "Permission Default: Everybody". I'm using bPermissions and I'm wondering if this means that I don't need to add the permission node for that command to a group I want it in. Any help would be great, thanks.

Posted Jul 15, 2013I think I have stopped the permissions being deleted with the 2.10.5 version.
My global users.yml (n the bpermissions folder file) is around 60Kb.
The users.yml file in each world folder was around 120+Kb, as guests that were deleted from the global file don't get deleted from within the world folders. By deleting the users.yml file within each world folder the permissions don't get deleted now. I've no idea why, perhaps there is a file size limit. As players login they are added to the world users.yml file again.
Now to work out why the server keeps reporting 'end of stream' messages and kicking everyone after several hours.

We're seeing the same thing. About half the time when we do a /bp reload most of the permissions in the groups.yml file are deleted. Most of the time it deletes all of them, other times just most of them. Also if it does stay intact random players lose all of their permissions. They have to logout and back in to get their permissions back. We've had this problem with the last few releases, including the latest 2.10.5.

Posted Jul 14, 2013I can confirm that the latest version deleted most of the permissions in the cfg file, reverted back to the 2.10.4 version.
UPDATE: 2.10.4 still deletes large sections of the permissions group cfg file when server is restarted. For now I've removed the scheduule auto restarts.

Posted Jul 14, 2013I downloaded this plugin. I set up permissions and brought my friend in for testing. I tested with the basic time command. I did not add the command to his group nor is he OP. I even tried removing the command from his group but he can still use the command. Am I overlooking something regarding setting up the permissions or is it a plugin problem?

I've had it before. I believe it was either the '/reload' or '/perm cleanup' command which caused it.
Edit: I believe both caused it.

Try enabling global files in the config of bpermissions and restart the server then make the changes in the global groups.yml.
Alternately you could use do /world * to change all worlds for the specified user/group.
Hope this helps.

Posted Jul 14, 2013i love this plugin it is the best perms plugin i have found so far and i love how easy it is.
but is only one problem for me... buycraft you see when you add someone to a group using bperms you have to use 3 commands and this is how it looks on buycraft world [world name] user {name} user addgroup [group] but on buycraft when a command has {name] it automatically makes it be one of the first executed commands so the commands are execute like this user {name} world [world name] user addgroup [group] can you fix this by making it so that server owners like me can execute the commands with /world [world name] after or before the /user [user name]. right now we can only execute /world before /user [user name] i hope this makes sense

Posted Jul 14, 2013I'm accessing the API via APILayer and was hoping you guys would make one tiny little change. Since, I'm using buycraft. I'm getting the player's name inputted, which will be the name except for the upper and lowercase characters won't be identical. The issue I've come across is when I access bpermissions api and I'm looking for a player's group via a String(name) it's not checking equalsIgnorecase. Hope that makes any sense.

Posted Jul 13, 2013I had the file blank bug hit me on 2.11.2 & 1.5.2, and I was only using the commands to edit permissions... It was fine until I made a change, saved, then reloaded one day and then everything was blank. Unfortunately it was weeks ago and I don't have any of those logs since I have gone on to the dev builds and I'm manually changing my perm files so it doesn't happen again. I can say that it hasn't happened since and I will modify and reload while the server is running with no issues.

I really would like to know what's causing this bug :/
I have been totally unable to reproduce this, and it isn't happening on my server.

First of all, thank you very much for trying to recreate the problem so that we at least feel like you know what we're talking about. Second, I certainly agree with everything you said about using FTP as well as editing the file whilst the server is live. I can see how that could be a possible (albeit RARE) way to screw things up. However, what about when we make NO edits or changes to anything related to bPermissions, and we simply have a scheduled restart (as we have for over a year now with no problems EVER), and it wipes the group.yml permissions? I really hope you read my last comment where I go into detail about exactly which dev builds of Bukkit make this problem more profound. I'm perfectly aware of the risks of using a dev build, but I would just like a response from you as to why you think that could happen. You thoroughly covered everything else.

Posted Jul 13, 2013v2.10.5 of bPermissions doesn't update the group/permissions of promoted players when using /promote or /demote.
In v2.10.4 this worked without letting them relog =/

I'm running bukkit 1.5.2 R1.0 I've had the bug where perms files are wiped, and I've not used /reload in years.
I do edit the perms files whilst the server is running occasionally, however this doesn't normally cause issues.
I'm guessing the bug lies somewhere in the code for /promote, /demote, /perm cleanup or /perm reload.

Posted Jul 12, 2013Hello all,
I just have a few things to say here. If you are whining about errors due to 1.6.2, you should note that 1.6.1 AND 1.6.2 craftbukkit builds are DEVELOPMENTS builds- use at your own risk. They are not concrete, and will break certain plugins.
As to permissions files being wiped- I was able to replicate the problem for the most part. What many administrators do is edit their configuration files while the server is running, and then simply reload the server to apply changes. I tried this, and a couple of the times it resulted in empty permissions files. Please don't take this the wrong way, but that is a downright stupid way to change things. You're pretty much playing the russian roulette of minecraft servers. The safe way is to completely shut down your server, then make all the necessary changes.
In addition, most of you probably pay for hosting service from some site. Depending on their FTP servers, there IS a risk. I host with my own equipment at my house, and have noticed that having a FTP server running hot while the MC server is up can be a gamble. For hosting sites, FTP servers are constantly up, always jamming the MC server and grabbing files while the server is hot. I just don't like that thought, say I only start up my FTP server when it's truly necessary. I'm not sure if this could play into the clearing of permissions or not, however I do know that FTP has messed with my other plugins in the past- screwing with configuration files and such.
Also, try not to add/remove permissions or groups via commands. Yes it is there and was provided for a purpose- to make things easier. However, I have noticed that changing permissions while other plugins are constantly depending on them can be a risky action. I have not had a bad experience do his with bPermissions, however I have noticed that modifying permissions of other plugins like PermissionsBukkit can end horribly.
Thanks idrum69
