bPermissions
bPermissions
Welcome to bPermissions, a Superperms Manager for Bukkit! bPermissions focuses on being unique from the rest of the Permission managers. It's very simple to set up and use, it's lightning fast, fully featured, and has a great support team!
Some features:
- bPermissions has a gui client specifically designed to make running a server so easy that you'll forget that you ever used any other permissions plugin. Get it here!
- bPermissions has a unique command structure, never before seen in a permission manager. It's best used for adding lots of nodes to a user or group from the console or in-game, less typing!
- bPermissions has everything you would expect from a Permissions manager. Prefix and suffix support, inheritance, per-player permissions, multiworld support, promotion/demotion tracks, and even group priorities for multi-group setups.
- Note - bPermissions only defines prefixes and suffixes. You need a chat plugin such as bChatManager for them to show up in chat.
Commands
Say you have a user called 'Bob' and you want to put him in the group 'admin' and give him the prefix 'awesome'.
- /world yourmainworld - selects the world "yourmainworld"
- /user bob - selects the user "bob"
- /user setgroup admin - set bob's group as "admin"
- /user meta prefix awesome - set bob's prefix to "awesome"
You can do the same with groups!
- /world yourmainworld - again, selects the world
- /group admin - selects the group "admin"
- /group addgroup moderator - makes the admin group inherit from the moderator group
- /group meta prefix &c[Admin] - sets the admin prefix to "&c[Admin]"
Some other commands are as follows
- /permissions (or /bperms,/bp,/p) - general commands for bPermissions are prefixed by this
- /permissions import pex - import a pex permissions.yml in the pex folder
- /permissions reload - reloads your bPermissions files
- /permissions save - if auto-save is false, this saves your perms
- /permissions backup - backup your permissions
- /permissions helpme - for the lazy among you, this spews out some basic permissions files into your folder.
In order to use these commands, you'll need the permissions node bPermissions.admin
For configurable /promote and /demote tracks, you'll want to use permissions tracks. To read about those, visit this page
Want more commands? We have some others over on the commands page. Check 'em out!
Editing Files
bPermissions creates per world groups.yml and users.yml files in the bPermissions folder, which allow you to configure permissions on a per world basis.
Because bPermissions was designed to be configured largely via commands, bPermissions will often overwrite changes to these files especially if you /reload or restart the server.
If you've edited the files, you MUST use /permissions reload to load the modified files into the server, otherwise the permissions changes won't apply. Because a standard /reload unloads all plugins like a server stop, we cannot tell the difference between them and this will overwrite changes to your files with whatever the server last stored.
World mirroring
Worlds are mirrored like so:
world_mirroring_to: world_mirroring_from world_nether: world world_the_end: world
This duplicates the whole config for that world. Currently there's no way to have just the users or the groups mirrored, stay tuned for an update that adds this!
bPermissions and EssentialsChat
Allow me to put this issue to bed. Essentials Chat + bPermissions works for prefix and color.
This guide is for current users of EssentialsChat and want to use bPermissions along with it.
Players have colored rank prefixes and faction chat modes are also colored. All text can be colored by the players too using color codes such as &c.
bPermissions\world\groups.yml ( code snippet )
default: default groups: ## Peasant ## default: permissions: - group.default - group.userannouncer - group.userauction groups: - userannouncer - userauction meta: priority: '100' ## Citizen ## rank1: permissions: - group.default - group.rank1 groups: - default meta: priority: '200'
It has nothing configured for prefix but the group names are important (default, rank1)
Essentials\config.yml ( Code Snippet )
change-displayname: true #add-prefix-suffix: false player-commands: - chat.color - chat.format - chat.shout - chat.question chat: radius: 0 group-formats: default: '&8&lPeasant &r&8{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' rank1: '&8&lCitizen &r&7{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' moderator: '&e&l[Mod] &r&3{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' admin: '&c&l[Admin] &r&e{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}'
Please direct all other Essentials support to their official support networks.
How do I get support?
First, we highly recommend you go read the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, there's a few options of support.
- Visit the #bananacode irc channel on irc.esper.net. Just head there, as your question, and wait for someone to help you. It might be a while before you get an answer, so be patient!
- You can file a ticket. This is recommended if you don't have the time to hang around in the IRC or you have a bug report. Be prepared to check back to the ticket though, and make sure you attach your bPermissions groups and users yml files to the ticket.
- Comment on the bPermissions main page.
Note that as there's only one (slightly inactive) maintainer at the moment, any support queries may take some time.
However you choose to get support, "pls dont use txt spk," and make sure you use actual grammar.
I'm a developer!
If you wish to hook your plugin into bPermissions, please see the Developer Page for more information! If you wish to contribute code to bPermissions, fork us on GitHub!
Development builds of this project can also be downloaded from GitHub now. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff, and are possibly buggy. Use them at your own risk.

I am sry if i missed it, tried to look but had no enough time to read all. I dont even know how to re-produce it, it just happened once while server was normally running, no error in console or anything. I have backup from my perms now just in case this happens again.

Try reading a few posts... Everyone has already mentioned this as well as possible causes. But there is not a fix for it yet, as we are waiting for the developers of this plugin to (1) reproduce it for themselves (they say they cannot) and (2) release an update to fix it. I recommend keeping a few backups of your GOOD group.yml file and swap it out when this happens. It happens mostly at restarts or the use of /perm reload.

Dont support buycraft and start using Enjin's donationcraft.
A LOT better and they dont ask for shit loads of money just so you could use more than 5 packages. Buycraft is piece of poo money whores.

Then just don't use BuyCraft, use the Enjin DonationCraft plugin. In my opinion, it's much better, no offense to anyone who likes it. You can get it here. http://dev.bukkit.org/bukkit-plugins/emp/

Posted Jul 19, 2013Okay I'd like to let everyone know that the bperms erasing could be occurring because your server memory is full. Try deleting your log files and testing for the bug again.

Posted Jul 19, 2013I keep getting this error with latest version. It freezes up my server for 10 seconds and creates a HUGE lag spike. Would love some help with diagnosing the problem.

Check the page before this one. They replied a couple of times after I made a small, polite fuss. They said they acknowledge this problem but cannot reproduce it. In my most recent, unanswered comment, I suggested that they revert their sorting update or whatever that was. This problem started happening at the same time that they made the permission nodes no longer sort alphabetically. I do not have a reason to believe that the two events are related, but I think it's worth a shot to put that back like they had it. Also, for some reason, my players cannot have 2 groups at the same time anymore. The last few updates have not been updates at all...try "severe setback v 2.11.2".
Like if a player has earned Miner rank due to XP skills earned but has donated for VIP rank, I want them to have both Miner and VIP permissions at the same time. I use /user addgroup Miner, and then I add a 2nd group by /user addgroup VIP. Both group names show up in the user.yml file, but they only have the permissions of the last one added.

Posted Jul 18, 2013I prefer bpermissions as its easy to setup and use, but its just not reliable enough. Would be good to hear from those developing the plugin if there has been any progress, seems odd there has been no comment. Even just a 'working on it' comment would be good.

Posted Jul 18, 2013Just started happening to me too, ive rolled back the plugin to the suggested 162 workaround version above; and reverted my groups.
In my case (i run multiverse) my main world perms held up, and my global perms file held up, but random permissions dissappeared from my other worlds. Bit like a tornado, some ranks were not touched, other ranks were back to [ ], all my ranks still had their meta prefixes oddly. I initially thought someone was messing with in game global permissions changing commands - due to the prefixes appearing on other worlds for empty ranks.
Wierd in any event. In my case, we have a massive users file on our worlds. Could it be some integer overflow? or missing a close file somewhere? I do sometimes use permissions reload command on console when making quick fixes without logging into the server.
I have also been pondering changing permissions plugins; since the current bpermissions lacks some functionality i had back in yeti permissions; and the permissions tracks on the current version has been made so featureless as to almost be useless now. (it was pretty epic many versions back) Trouble is, the other plugins appear to be much much worse lol. This permission plugin is awesome compared to them.

Posted Jul 17, 2013I thought 2.11.1 had stopped the groups file from being changed, but it still happens sometimes during a restart, as xanderortiz said. This has been a great plugin, however its just too unreliable and frustrating to continue with at the moment, unfortunately I'll have to look at an alternative until the problems with bpermissions are solved.

As you can see, more and more people are having the restart-group-erase issue. I can also contribute that this started at the same time that my permissions stopped being sorted in alphabetical order. I'm not sure why you guys changed that. It makes it so much harder to locate the node for which I'm searching. So you might want to try making a newer version that goes back to the old way of sorting the nodes. I have a hunch that that's all tied in somehow. Also, it does not appear to happen on EVERY restart. It seems random. Like today we had auto restarts at midnight then again at 8 am with no problem. But our 4 pm restart cleared the groups.yml file. -.- No pattern.

Getting the same problem again, manual restart the permissions are ok. But an auto-=restart and the permissions get altered and many are deleted.
Anyone else having their server kick all players with end of stream errors and not let anyone back on. Auto restart wont work when that happens.
I've installed 2.11.1 to try now.

Posted Jul 16, 20132.10.5 just deleted 4/5 of the groups in my groups.yml. I did a backup of it yesterday, otherwise I would be screwed. After installing this version I did several manual restarts with no sign of trouble, but the server's auto restart seems to have caused this. Maybe that's a hint for you. Sad to see such an important plugin to servers having an issue like this.
