bPermissions
bPermissions
Welcome to bPermissions, a Superperms Manager for Bukkit! bPermissions focuses on being unique from the rest of the Permission managers. It's very simple to set up and use, it's lightning fast, fully featured, and has a great support team!
Some features:
- bPermissions has a gui client specifically designed to make running a server so easy that you'll forget that you ever used any other permissions plugin. Get it here!
- bPermissions has a unique command structure, never before seen in a permission manager. It's best used for adding lots of nodes to a user or group from the console or in-game, less typing!
- bPermissions has everything you would expect from a Permissions manager. Prefix and suffix support, inheritance, per-player permissions, multiworld support, promotion/demotion tracks, and even group priorities for multi-group setups.
- Note - bPermissions only defines prefixes and suffixes. You need a chat plugin such as bChatManager for them to show up in chat.
Commands
Say you have a user called 'Bob' and you want to put him in the group 'admin' and give him the prefix 'awesome'.
- /world yourmainworld - selects the world "yourmainworld"
- /user bob - selects the user "bob"
- /user setgroup admin - set bob's group as "admin"
- /user meta prefix awesome - set bob's prefix to "awesome"
You can do the same with groups!
- /world yourmainworld - again, selects the world
- /group admin - selects the group "admin"
- /group addgroup moderator - makes the admin group inherit from the moderator group
- /group meta prefix &c[Admin] - sets the admin prefix to "&c[Admin]"
Some other commands are as follows
- /permissions (or /bperms,/bp,/p) - general commands for bPermissions are prefixed by this
- /permissions import pex - import a pex permissions.yml in the pex folder
- /permissions reload - reloads your bPermissions files
- /permissions save - if auto-save is false, this saves your perms
- /permissions backup - backup your permissions
- /permissions helpme - for the lazy among you, this spews out some basic permissions files into your folder.
In order to use these commands, you'll need the permissions node bPermissions.admin
For configurable /promote and /demote tracks, you'll want to use permissions tracks. To read about those, visit this page
Want more commands? We have some others over on the commands page. Check 'em out!
Editing Files
bPermissions creates per world groups.yml and users.yml files in the bPermissions folder, which allow you to configure permissions on a per world basis.
Because bPermissions was designed to be configured largely via commands, bPermissions will often overwrite changes to these files especially if you /reload or restart the server.
If you've edited the files, you MUST use /permissions reload to load the modified files into the server, otherwise the permissions changes won't apply. Because a standard /reload unloads all plugins like a server stop, we cannot tell the difference between them and this will overwrite changes to your files with whatever the server last stored.
World mirroring
Worlds are mirrored like so:
world_mirroring_to: world_mirroring_from world_nether: world world_the_end: world
This duplicates the whole config for that world. Currently there's no way to have just the users or the groups mirrored, stay tuned for an update that adds this!
bPermissions and EssentialsChat
Allow me to put this issue to bed. Essentials Chat + bPermissions works for prefix and color.
This guide is for current users of EssentialsChat and want to use bPermissions along with it.
Players have colored rank prefixes and faction chat modes are also colored. All text can be colored by the players too using color codes such as &c.
bPermissions\world\groups.yml ( code snippet )
default: default groups: ## Peasant ## default: permissions: - group.default - group.userannouncer - group.userauction groups: - userannouncer - userauction meta: priority: '100' ## Citizen ## rank1: permissions: - group.default - group.rank1 groups: - default meta: priority: '200'
It has nothing configured for prefix but the group names are important (default, rank1)
Essentials\config.yml ( Code Snippet )
change-displayname: true #add-prefix-suffix: false player-commands: - chat.color - chat.format - chat.shout - chat.question chat: radius: 0 group-formats: default: '&8&lPeasant &r&8{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' rank1: '&8&lCitizen &r&7{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' moderator: '&e&l[Mod] &r&3{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' admin: '&c&l[Admin] &r&e{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}'
Please direct all other Essentials support to their official support networks.
How do I get support?
First, we highly recommend you go read the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, there's a few options of support.
- Visit the #bananacode irc channel on irc.esper.net. Just head there, as your question, and wait for someone to help you. It might be a while before you get an answer, so be patient!
- You can file a ticket. This is recommended if you don't have the time to hang around in the IRC or you have a bug report. Be prepared to check back to the ticket though, and make sure you attach your bPermissions groups and users yml files to the ticket.
- Comment on the bPermissions main page.
Note that as there's only one (slightly inactive) maintainer at the moment, any support queries may take some time.
However you choose to get support, "pls dont use txt spk," and make sure you use actual grammar.
I'm a developer!
If you wish to hook your plugin into bPermissions, please see the Developer Page for more information! If you wish to contribute code to bPermissions, fork us on GitHub!
Development builds of this project can also be downloaded from GitHub now. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff, and are possibly buggy. Use them at your own risk.

If you still need help, give me your contact info - chat on Skype or something. I run a successful server that has been using bpermissions for over a year.

i know that people are having very different issues. I am one of them. when i had it in my server it just crashed on me midday and i was never able to get my perms back to working. and i even lost my world due to a corruption on the backup when it went down. the auto update comment was about a older version of bpermissions that I was trying to see if it would allow me to go back to using bpermissions. I have used bpermissions for close to three years with little to no problem till the issue arised back with the 1.7.2 update with bukkit. and b/c of that issue i am unable to use the permissions that I have honed over the course of two servers and have lost alot of staff positions due to limitations with pex. I didn't want to leave bpermissions but it was either keep it on and no one beable to do anything or create a set of back up permissions using something else like pex. Trust me I much rather be using bpermissions b/c i am more familiar with it than pex and find it easier to work with than pex. And pex is so limited on how many groups you can use with it were i had atleast ten groups in my groups file on bpermissions. I would love to see him continue the work. I don't want it to die and would be very unhappy if it were to do so.

Despite reduced motivation, and problems arising, rymate (as the optimist he is) said he isn't giving up. Here's a quote from a few comments down:
The big issue here, is that some people are getting serious issues with bPermissions rather than no one or everyone. This means that the issue(s) at hand will be hard to track down and correct. If everyone (frequently) had the issue, it would be easy to find. If no one had the issue... well, this one is fairly obvious.

Posted Jan 20, 2014it is a possibility that it auto updated on me. I never had any major issue with bpermissions. I am having more and more issues with pex than i ever did with bpermissions. I loved how easy it was to work with unlike pex. I can not even add a new group to my pex perms or it will not work. it is frustraiting as all get out as i had a very unique set up for my staff and had very specific ranks that i am not able to use b/c the limitations of the pex style system. I would love it if you could/would continue your work on bpermissions as it is the only permissions system i would rather use. and is by far in my opinion the best one out there for servers like mine that use a fairly elaborate hierarchy.

Posted Jan 19, 2014What's especially disconcerting is the variation in results from using this plugin, ranging from "fine" to "horrible".
On my CB 1.5.2 server (running 250ish plugins), it appears to run fine, although a few of the permissions nodes I've assigned don't seem to be read properly.
For instance, I negate "x" node from the default rank, then add it to some higher rank (which then inherits into all subsequent ranks), but I find myself unable to perform certain tasks due to a lack of permissions, which is indeed strange. That only happens for a small minority of plugins, however. It could have something to do with the weird permissions hierarchy I set up.
Nonetheless, giving up bPermissions is one of the last things I'd do, since it has all the features I want, and I dislike many of the other permissions plugins (especially PEX; had bad experiences with it). I wish I could help with coding, but I'm ignorant in that aspect.

I have a large server with over 10,000 unique players, over 80 plugins, etc... bPermissions works fine. I have only have two issues.
1) my group.yml file keeps losing it's default group data, not the group itself, just what group should be selected at default on first join.
2) mirrors file has a specific world properly specified to be mirrored, but it keeps saying that world isn't loaded and fails to use it's group/user.yml file.
Other than that, I love bPermissions - Please don't give up on it, I've been using it for a year and a half now.

It seems to work fine on small servers, so unless it does break it will probably work until the end of time :) (or until bukkit breaks something / changes an API)

If it helps, I'm one of many who really enjoys bPermissions. I've used it for a while on a small server for my friends with no major issues. I'm running it with Spigot 1.7.2 right now, which seems to be working okay. I got nervous when you seemed ready to give up and tried to find an alternative permissions plugin, but it's such a PITA to switch. I was looking at zPermissions for a while, but when I tried to set it up, it was really way more complicated than need be. bPermissions really just seems perfect for my needs. I'd hate to see it go.
Props to you for trying to keep working on it during school. I have a job and I'm a full time college student, so I know how busy life can get. Good luck with everything, I hope you can sort it all out.

well fuck if it's december 2012 we're talking about some pretty huge bug :/
code is at https://github.com/rymate1234/bPermissions/ btw
@Thatfoxguy30
why didn't you set things up on your pc instead of wasting money on a server for 3 months
@rayblon
im seriously starting to consider recommending other permissions plugins for the time being. i no longer really have the time to develop. i need to sort out my school work, get a proper schedule. especially if the bugs are due to how bpermissions internally works, in which case i might have to rewrite :/
update every time i look at the comments my motivation gets lower and lower. it's not your fault guys. it's just that the more i read about these bugs the more it seems like i may need to entirely recode bpermissions, as i honestly haven't a clue what the issue is.
I'm not giving up. Not yet. I just need to get shit sorted school wise. Just don't expect a 1.7 build anytime soon.

Stop using bPerms. As much as I hate to say it, even Essentials groupmanager is more reliable than this now.

Posted Jan 14, 2014Hello, I'm new to servers, so I don't know much about setting them up. SO I pay for my server and I need help setting up permissions for my server. I've watched hundreds, literally hundreds of hours of tutorials, I've checked and double checked my permissions files. This has been 3 months now I've been working on just the permissions and I really need some help. I can give my files and everything anyone wants to help. Or if someone wants to join my team that knows what they are talking about that would be wonderful too. I have a small but dedicated staff if anyone is looking for work. But most of all I need help with this. So reply to this if your interested.

Posted Jan 13, 2014i tried a older version that i was running in december of 2012 and it still did not work. i would love a copy of the code for my own personal tinkering as i am working to learn java and love this plugin as it is one of the easiest permissions managers to use in my opinion.

Posted Jan 12, 2014I want to mirror a world so it uses it's own set of group/user perms... unfortunately, when I type /world <worldname>, it states it's not loaded.
How do I get a world to load properly for bpermission to see it? Multiverse is already seeing the world properly and, in fact, players are already playing on it. But permissions are completely borked.
That said, how do I get bPermissions to see it again? I tried created the directory and group/user files manually, but it still doesn't work.
Thanks in advance.

Those are builds that I produced. Can you try versions prior to my first build (2.11)
