pre-v2/for-users/Installation
This page is outdated and NOT recommended unless using 1.4 or older
Some people who are unfamiliar with the way installing plugins and/or updating works always need help, so why not have a guide for installing and/or updating BananaSpace in the wiki? Remember that this guide is designed for the very beginners who do not know how to install plugins (that well).
Installing BananaSpace
Installing a CraftBukkit plugin is pretty easy. If the plugin has a lot of configuration settings to play with, it might be a little tricky to do what you want to do. There is a page on the wiki here that has all default configuration files with comments for almost every setting. That will help you configure BananaSpace to your liking. First, however, let's install the plugin!
1. Download the plugin from the link in the Bukkit forum thread (or here on GitHub, in the README.md-file)
2. Save the .jar file to a location you can find it in the next step.
3. Now go to the location you saved the .jar file and open up your server folder.
4. Inside your server folder, open the plugins-folder. Now drag the .jar file to the plugins-folder you opened.
5. That's it for the file moving part. If your server was running while you did this, do a restart or reload.
6. Now once the server is restarted or reloaded, you should see some BananaSpace-messages pop up in the server console.
7. You will see a SEVERE-error in console on first start. You must add a world to the config.yml file. More info in Configuration.
7b. You can also use a world manager to generate space, but you won't have any special features (yet).
8. For more help with usage of BananaSpace, use the /space help command. (NOTE: This is disabled if you have Multiverse running)
9. If you want to know the permission nodes and commands of BananaSpace, please see page for them.
That's it, you've now installed BananaSpace and you're ready to have fun with the rather empty spaceworlds! Remember that you can use the steps 1-5 for other plugins you want to install. We suggest you install Pail (a Bukkit GUI) for easy server management and if you're a little advanced, Spout and Spoutcraft for some extra features to make space feel more realistic.
Updating BananaSpace
Updating BananaSpace is as easy as 1-2-3, a-b-c or do-re-mi, you just need to pretty much repeat the steps you did to install BananaSpace, but if the update included configuration file changes, you will have to make a new configuration file if you want to change the new stuff included in the update. Only do this if you have backuped the old configuration files, so you can get your world settings back.

Posted Oct 27, 2011You could make these instructions much more clear by cutting out the fluff. Just a suggestion.
Example.
Step 1 Download the .jar file >here< (make it a hyperlink)
Step 2 Save the .jar file in to your /plugins folder
Step 3 Restart the server
Step 4 Edit the config.yml file located in the /plugins/bananaspace folder
Step 5 Restart server again.
Done.
Update: Okay, even still ... I couldn't get the thing to work. I think I'm lost around step 7. Is a world generator required, or optional? Could you provide a link to or a name of a suitable world generator if it is required? When I type /space list in game it just says there are no space worlds. I've posted a help request in the forums.
:-/
Thanks :-)
