Description
This plugin is intended to efficiently provide a border for each of your worlds, which only people granted special bypass access are allowed beyond. These borders can be round/elliptic or square/rectangular. As the plugin has been written with performance as the most important goal, it should have no performance impact on your server. Additional world trimming and filling commands are available as well.
Older plugins which originally inspired the creation of this one: rBorder and BorderGuard.
Features
- You can set up a separate border for each world, but only one border per world.
- You can have either round/elliptic or square/rectangular borders. Square/rectangular borders are slightly higher performance, round/elliptic borders make for nicer display maps. Different worlds can have different border shapes if you so choose.
- Configuration and border setup is done completely using commands in-game or through the server console. No need to ever edit the config file directly.
- Support for all permission plugins which interface with Bukkit's built-in "superperms" permission system.
- You can fully generate (fill) your world all the way to the border, filling in any missing chunks, including a configurable buffer zone just outside your border.
- You can trim off any world chunks beyond the border, getting rid of extraneous parts, with a configurable buffer zone left just outside your border.
- You can use a bypass command to allow specific players to go beyond all borders.
- Borders can be automatically displayed in DynMap if you use that plugin.
- All plugin data is automatically saved whenever any borders or settings are changed.
- If a player crosses a border while in a vehicle, the momentum of the vehicle is stopped and it is moved back inside the border with the player.
- When a player is moved back inside a border, they will be moved to a safe vertical location if needed.
- Borders for specific worlds can be set to wrap around instead of just knocking back players who cross the border, instead sending them to the opposite edge of the border.

Of special interest are the Fill command and the Trim command features:

Borders are also displayed automatically by default in DynMap if you have it:

Posted Nov 21, 2012Bug: Through the use of nether portals, players can get past the border. Once theyre past, they can do whatever they like.
Make a portal far out in the nether and go through it.. youre past the border

If i remember correctly, its the algorithm that is used to/when trimming a world. it doesn't "crash" your server but makes it temporarily unreachable, from my extensive testing with the update to 1.6 of this plugin.

Posted Nov 19, 2012Crazy thought, would it be possible to add a function so that when you enter the border dead south you get transported to the north border?
So that the world loops around it self.

WorldBorder doesn't do anything to modify world types.

Posted Nov 15, 2012I don't know if this is multiverse or wb but I will be upgrading to a dev build of multiverse to see if this issue gets fixed. But somehow any nether world that is being generated suddenly switches to a normal world.

Posted Nov 14, 2012Could you add the ability to have multiple borders per world? e.g. Have another circular bordered area outside of the normal world area so I don't have to make a new world :D

Posted Nov 13, 2012Well, as I said. I'm already satisfied with your plugin. ;)
I'm also already using my own solution on this. I just edited the text shown at the border to "You need to use the main roads to leave this world" and then have teleporters at the end of those roads out of the city. It actually works better than expected since I then can make different roads out lead to different worlds. :)

Posted Nov 12, 2012I still have the idea of showing a visual border to players which doesn't really exist in the world files, it's just sent to players as real. The main idea would be to have all solid blocks beyond the border sent to players as being one block type (probably bedrock by default) and all non-solid blocks (air, torches, other breathable types) sent as another block type (glass, maybe). The two block types sent in place of solid and non-solid blocks would be configurable.
It would be more of a performance hit than anything else in the plugin, but I think the effect would be worth it. Sadly I still don't really have time to invest in working something like that without someone to sponsor the work.
After some visual way to see the border like that it would make more sense to have something like what you're describing where walking outside the border sends you to another world.

Posted Nov 12, 2012I have an idea which I don't know if it already has been mentioned.
Instead of having a bounceback when reaching the worlds border it would be awesome if it was possible to set it as a teleporter instead. Not warping you to a set location on the map thought but instead teleporting you to a new world with a custom message.
As said, this is perhaps already possible and/or been mentioned allready but it would make it possible to have a special border around a "newbie-map" or a city players start in and when the reach the world border they could be teleported to the "adventure map" or whatever with the message "You leave the city to explore the world" (or something like that).
Even better in this case would be a warning a couple of blocks away from the border so that when a player nears a border the message "You are about to leave this world" or something like that are shown.
Just some ideas. I am 100% in love with this plugin as it is, no complains, none at all. :D

The problem is, any permission which automatically grants access beyond the border would automatically be applied to any person with all permissions. Absolutely undesirable behavior as I've mentioned before. More for my own sanity than the sanity of others struck unawares by that and therefore reporting it as a bug that the border isn't working for them.
A (very) crude workaround would be to run the bypass command for each target player from the console at each server startup. Not pretty, but it would work.

Posted Nov 11, 2012Do you think it would be possible to add an exception to the plugin to allow an essentials group to pass through the border? Like some sort of if-else? I know its probably not that easy. We want to set an area around spawn that nonmembers/default users cannot leave if that is any help.

Posted Nov 11, 2012Can you please allow us to set a border like 2000x5000 or something like that?
The problem is that our map can't be a square. :(

Posted Nov 11, 2012Any chance we can get the option to make rectangular shapes? Or will we have to use two or more squares to get the shape we want?
