Plugin: TrainCarts - Linked Minecarts, sign-redstone systems, easy to use and realistic
Version: v1.73.0
Build: 1.7.2 R0.1/R0.2
Incompatible with: RailCraft
Description
This plugin looks for suitable Minecarts and links them together if possible. When two Minecarts are being "linked", the Minecarts will act as one single moving train.
Once carts are successfully linked, an effect is played and their velocity is shared in combination with an individual factor for each Minecart, which is used to remain a steady gap between carts. This gap is adjustable, the force at which this happens as well.
End result: a train! You can move it, make a roller-coaster out of it, split it in half, watch trains collide, whatever you want to do with trains. :)
As for 1.21, it is also possible to safely exit your train by setting an exit offset with a (sideways) push factor for the train. This feature is disabled by default. (only affects dropped items). If you want to display arrival times on signs (see redstone circuit part) you need SignLink, see the downloads on the bottom of the page.
As for 1.35 you can set train properties to make 'special' trains, or to 'finalize' a train

Links
For configuration, permissions and how-to's, see the Wikipedia page (it is rather long):
Note that I would prefer having comments, bug reports and others in the main Bukkit page, since I visit that site the most. :)
Addons
Special Addons for TrainCarts
Features
- Link minecarts using collision: no commands needed to make a train
- Move trains as easily as you would with single Minecarts
- Store trains to file for persistence during reloads and server restarts
- Use sign-redstone circuits for subway systems, complete railroads and much more
- Station to gracefully stop and launch trains
- Spawn
- Teleport
- Property setters
- Tag systems to switch certain tracks based on tags on the train
- Destination systems to make your train travel to far-away lands all on it's own
- Supports Minecart Mania's features
- Infinite minecart speeds are possible
- Push-away: Push mobs, players and items away from your trains to keep them running
- Everything is configurable, if something proves not to be, I will make it that way
FAQ
When players are near, trains reach their destinations. With no one near, they don't. What do I do?
By default trains do not keep chunks loaded, and they will unload once they move into unloaded chunks. To make trains keep the chunk area (and themselves) around them loaded, set the 'keepchunksloaded' property to True. This can be done using the /train keepchunksloaded true command, using a property sign or by changing it to true in the DefaultTrainProperties.yml file. For more information about train properties, see here.
Why not boats?!?!
Incompatibilities
If you have another plugin that performs similar Minecart replacement techniques, it is likely that TrainCarts will not function or function poorly. For the 'chunk persistence' part of this plugin, other plugins that unload chunks without firing events result in this feature failing. Minebackup is known for having this problem.
Metrics
This plugin sends server count statistics to MCStats.org. You can (globally) opt out in the PluginMetrics/config.yml file.

Well they do not link, that's for sure. But they still obey chest out / chest in commands, as well as switchers, plus they move without friction (I have configured TrainCarts to use no friction on our server) so I really don't know now. Maybe I do not understand the logic in what's a traincart and what's not. And, I am an op and an admin with "*" rights on our server, so permissions should NOT be an issue.

Posted May 23, 2013When using the plugin and I go to spawn a hopper cart, it comes out as a slighty darker version of a furnace.

Posted May 22, 2013@Etsija Have you checked whether the minecarts you place are actually traincarts? Do they link? Could be you don't have the train.place.traincart permission. Next to that, property signs make no distinction between the types of properties, so there can be no difference.

Posted May 22, 2013@Kahanamoku78 You can use /train list to see these trains, then use /train edit [name] to select one, and then use /train tp (or was it /train teleport?) to teleport to it. This should give you an idea where it is going wrong. If this is near a station, then it could be related to trains sometimes not leaving stations when no players are nearby.

Posted May 21, 2013Have it working on 1.5.2 but have had some odd occurrances of multiple trains/carts being on the rail network both existing in the first place, and secondly not moving.
On execution of a /train destroyall it removes at least 300 carts, which is beyond the expectations based on only 15 stations that spawn 4 carts each.
There are also empty train detector zones and destroyers at each station so the carts shouldn't actually exist as well beyond the stations.
anyone have similar experiences with this happening? is it a bug worth reporting or is it just on our server that the issue has arisen?

I'm trying to set the maxspeed to something higher than the default with signs for trains which are NOT spawned, ie. they are laid to the tracks by myself, not using the spawner signs. If I use the maxspeed property for spawned trains, they obey the new setting. For the trains constructed by myself, they do not.
I'm sure this has something to do with my Default Train Settings, but I cannot figure out what is it.

Posted May 20, 2013@bobthehuntedbobcat @Traincarts I have just finished off the official 1.5.1 version (build #100) (had to do that first for good measure) and it is awaiting approval. The 1.5.1 version also works on BKCommonLib for MC 1.5.2, so you can use that build on both. I will push through some performance fixes for the next TrainCarts build (which will be for 1.5.2), so once that is done, I recommend updating it to that. I expect to finish off a 1.5.2 build shortly, as the other plugins are already done updating at this point.
All I am doing now is testing the produced BKCommonLib to see if everything is ready 'for shipment', then I can focus fully on TrainCarts. There are no big issues reported thus far, but if you experience any problems, feel free to report them so I can look at it in time.
As usual, you can use the latest development builds for testing purposes or 'if you want to be the first', but I recommend using the official 1.5.1 build that is now pending approval until the 1.5.2 build is official. (some changes I will make will be rather experimental)

Posted May 18, 2013@cuddyier Not specifically, but you can place property signs underneath the rails to disable player exit as trains leave a station or area, and turn it back on once they reach the end/stop point.

Posted May 18, 2013Is there a way to stop players exiting the minecarts while they are moving? Just to stop them messing up the train and it changing direction.

Posted May 18, 2013@Flipse789 There is no such option I believe, but what you can do alternatively is:
Switcher + destroyer sign set-up
@XanvvdeR You also need the development build of BKCommonLib, same CI server.

Posted May 18, 2013@bergerkiller I love this plugin!!!!!!!!!! Is there a option to destroy a train if the player riding it disconnects? And also to tp the player to a certain loaction? I like the option to set playerexit to false, but if the player leaves the game, there is no way to prevent him from doing that...
