Want to help?
Hey!
I haven't found much time to work on this project lately. If you want to contribute, the source code can be found here: https://github.com/PaintballWarEdition/PaintballLegacy
Feel free to open pull requests, but try to keep the changes per PR minimal to reduce the time required to review them. If you have larger or more complex changes in mind, feel free to contact me to discuss them before you start working on them.
We also started to move the documentation over to Github: https://github.com/PaintballWarEdition/PaintballLegacy-Wiki/wiki
But this can certainly be improved. If you want to help with the documentation, feel free to contact me and send me your Github username.
If you can contribute and maintain translations of the plugin, or have other ideas of how you could contribute, let me know as well!
Thanks.

Paintball is a fast paced and action packed multiplayer game.
In the classic TeamDeathMatch mode 2 teams compete against each other to bombard each other with snowballs. Once a player is hit, he's out and automatically leaves the arena and has to wait in the paintball lobby for his mates to finish and the next match to start. In the Paintball lobby you will meet all paintball players, choose your team and wait for enough players, or the end of the last match. When all conditions are met, a countdown starts which announces the next match.
Some license stuff:
You can find the full license terms here: https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/paintball_pure_war/license
You can find a basic summary of it at the bottom of this page.
Quote:Our main target is to keep this plugin easily integratable on any standard survival server without disturbing the survival feeling. You don't have to dedicate a whole server or world to this plugin!

Basic-Features
Paintball is constantly expanding. There are more and more features added which have not much to do with the classic paintball game. But do not panic: According to your personal preferences you can modify or disable most things in the config.yml in the Paintball folder.
- No client or server modifications or additional plugins are required !
- Multiple Arenas: Build as many arenas as you like !
- Complete freedom on what your arena looks like! As Paintball does not care about your arenas borders, your arena can have any shape and layout, as long as it is impenetrable. Simple build some sort of wall around your arena to keep your players inside.
- Multiple Spawns: Paintball lets you define multiple spawn points for each team (red, blue, spectators) !
- Automatic-Lobby-Arena-System: The Paintball lobby will automatically rotate through all your ready arenas. No need for administrators to be online !
Limitation: Currently there can always only run one match at a time.
- Easy: No complex setup needed ! Only 4 commands and your arena is ready and added to the automatic arena rotation !
- Mechanism to strictly seperate Survival and Paintball and to prevent "cheating" in and with Paintball.
- Easy and individually adjustable small Shop, where you can buy ammunition or other special and unique "weapons", gadgets and power-ups with the Paintball-Cash earned during the matches.
- Ranking: Your players gain points to compete with each other !
- Various statistics: examples are Points, Cash, Kills, Deaths, Hits, Shots, KD, Accurancy, Teamattacks, Wins and Defeats for each player, each arena and as a whole.
- Toggleable Killfeed ! Turn it off if it spams you !
- Most stuff is configurable ! For advanced information click here.
- Much, much more!
Easy integration on every survival server!
Our main target is to keep this plugin easily integratable on any standard survival server without disturbing the survival feeling. Players shall not be able to swindle items or gain other advantages over survival players through Paintball.
Here you got some sort of overview what actions are taken to protect the survival-part of the server:
People with the 'paintball.admin' permissions node can bypass some of them.
- Prevent commands that are not related to Paintball. So player can't teleport or use commands as a benefit.
- Prevent breaking and placing of blocks.
- Prevent dropping and picking up items, or dropping the armor.
- Options to let players only join with full health or hunger so they can't escape during fights.
- Options to save the players inventory when joining the lobby and restore afterwards.
- Paintball inventory is cleared when leaving the lobby.
- Turned off damage and starvation inside the lobby.
- Many things can be disabled if they create problems with your other plugins.
- Explosions do no damage to blocks.
- Only Paintball players receive the Paintball messages. Your other players will not get spammed.

Additional information
Hint about version checking and stats collecting:
This plugin is checking dev.bukkit.org for new updates. This can be disabled in the config with the setting "Server.Version Check".
This plugin is also doing some periodically stats tracking to mcstats.org which helps me to determine how many servers are using it. This can be disabled with the setting "Server.Metrics".
And the plugin is also sending some stats to blablubbabc.de to maybe prepare for some kind of later serverlist (a list of paintball servers). Currently those data are only stored in a non-public mysql table on my server.
- This means that this plugin is sending some general information about the minecraftserver, like: ip-adress, port, servername, slots, motd, bukkit version, if server is in onlinemode and if it has whitelist enabled.
- And some information about paintball like: how many players already played paintball there and if it is an paintball-only server (autolobby enabled) and if the server admin wants the server to be listed at some kind of public server list later, when it is finished.
→Those data are currently only send once every reload.
→ For people who don't want to share these informations with me :( → you can en- and disable this in the serverlist config (plugins/Paintball/serverlist.yml) with the setting "post enabled"

Usage conditions / License
Paintball Server Plugin for Minecraft
by blablubbabc
You can find the full license terms here: https://dev.bukkit.org/projects/paintball_pure_war/license
Those may be updated from time to time. In summary:
- Usage of this software is on own risk. I give no warranty in any kind that this software is working as intended.
- Modifications for personal use are mostly allowed. See the license for limitations on that. (Also note that the source code isn't publically available just yet. So actual modifications might be rather tricky currently.)
- Do not redistribute or publicly upload the plugin, with or without modifications. People are supposed to always download it for themselves from this page.
- Do not use for commercial purposes! This also applies to add-ons (other plugins or services for example) which are related or used in relation to this plugin! Examples: Don't sell any in-game currency that can be used related to paintball. Don't sell access, or prioritize paying players when joining paintball or the server running paintball. Make sure that your "donors" don't get any benefits such as abilities that can be used within the matches, or otherwise in relation with paintball.
Thank you for respecting these conditions!
If you have any questions on this feel free to contact me.

The maps for the voting are randomly picked everytime. However, the vote command also accepts the arena name instead of the vote id. So you could setup signs with the arena name as argument. If the arena which is voted for is not part of the map voting, then players will simply get a message telling them that their vote is invalid or something.

At least the current 'blocking-all-inventories-feature' will get a setting for the matches. However in the lobby it might still be blocked. If I find an easy way for identifying custom inventories, then having a separate setting for those (even for the lobby) seems possible.
Nope sorry. In total I have been working on the rewrite since about 2 years already (interrupted by working on updates for the current version of paintball, other plugins, other projects and exams, multiple times). However I feel like I am coming near to a first, still early but somewhat runnable version now. Though right now (and for the next few weeks) I am still buisy with 1 more exam and vacation afterwards for the next few weeks, before I can get back on working on the rewrite, finishing the first version and then getting a feeling of how much of it is already working and how much still needs to be fixed or is still missing, once I start testing. So I can't give you any rough release date yet..

Awesome stuff. So me being optimistic, in theory the issue could potentially be fixed in the rewrite? If so #1, then a suggestion would be to make it a boolean value meaning giving the option in the config to set it as true or false as to if any other inventory should be opened while a player is in paintball. If so #2 (I'm not being impatient, I'm just literally wondering when it is), could you possibly give a date as to when the rewrite will be complete?
Thanks! (This should be my last comment regarding my original issue)

Try disabling the 'teleport-invisible-fix' setting in the config. This sometimes helps.

I can't tell for sure. Currently paintball blocks opening all inventories besides the one named 'Paintball Shop'. This is so that player's in the match cannot open chests, dispensers, horse inventories, and any other kind of current and future minecraft inventories (without having to update paintball everytime new inventory types are added to minecraft).
I don't know yet if there is an easy way to identify inventories created by other plugins.. if there is, then excepting custom plugin inventories should be no problem.
However, I will probably not look into this for the current version of paintball, but only for the rewrite of paintball (once that is done).

Thanks for the reply.
So regarding the overall issue, do you think there will be a fix to the GUI bug?
I have 3 plugins that use GUI:
Using the commands for those plugins within the lobby/paintball don't work, but it does actually execute the command. Let me explain the context:
I have added the sound 'pling' to the chest commands plugin, and so when I execute the command, it will open the actual GUI while simultaneously executing the pling sound. Now when I do this in paintball, it will play the sound, meaning the command has executed successfully, but doesn't open the GUI. This is the same with the other two GUI plugins.
Basically my question is do you reckon this GUI issue will ever be fixed? If not, that's absolutely fine, I just think it's worth asking.
Thanks, Bob5646

It means that inside of paintball gamemodes don't have to expect that other plugins mess around with the player's inventory (including head item), or that gamemodes accidently 'destroy' player content which other plugins created, everytime player inventories are cleared or replaced by the gamemode or by paintball itself.
I might remove the blocking of (custom) inventories in the future (for other reasons though, and not now, as I am currently not working on the current version of paintball), however I still will not support what you are trying to achieve with this change. So if your hats plugin still isn't working or if it causes incompatibilities/issues with paintball or gamemodes for paintball that will be up to you to fix then.

Firstly, thanks for the reply.
Now regarding your actual comment, I've already managed to store their inventory before joining the lobby (and the player regains it after they have exited paintball as well for that matter), but I'm not quite sure what you mean by giving gamemodes full control.
Basically if a player wears a hat before joining, they will lose it while actually in paintball, but they regain it again when exiting paintball. Additionally, the /hat [ID} (I use a different plugin for hats opposed to essentials) does work and it puts on the hat of the ID the player chooses, displacing their team helmet.
However, I only want them to use the GUI to choose hats, for many reasons, so disallowing the use of the actual command /hat [ID}, and instead executing it from the OP's point of view from the plugin.
So ESSENTIALLY, a solution would be giving the option in the config of clearing the inventory or not.
Thanks, Bob5646

I don't know if this will ever be possible/supported with paintball.
In the future, once the framework is in place for allowing people to create new gamemodes as add-ons, those gamemodes might have their own purpose for the head slot of the player's inventory.
So my stance regarding compatibility with other plugins is: Store the player's inventory content before entering paintball, then give gamemodes full control over the inventory content and afterwards restore the inventory content again.
So outside of paintball your hats plugin should still work fine and the hat should get restored when leaving paintball again, while inside of paintball I (and other authors of paintball add-ons in the future) have full control over the player without having to fear strange interference with other plugins (like your hats plugin setting a player's head item, but some gamemode expecting the head item of a player in the match to represent some gamemode-specific state).

Posted Sep 24, 2015Simply amazing plugin!! However, I do have one problem. When I'm actually in paintball using the plugin, I can't seem to open any other GUI apart from the shop. I mention this as a problem because I have two other plugins I use (trails and hats) which involve using GUIs, and so I want them to work while actually in paintball.
Additionally, as I use a hats plugin, (dependent on other plugins), I would like the players to keep their hats while they play paintball.
Thanks!

Thanks for reporting. This error might pop up if you very quickly disable or reload paintball after it just freshly started.
I created a ticket for it here.
This doesn't cause any severe issues, because the task causing this error is only meant to print some info to the console after the plugin started (so nothing crucial is breaking).
I marked the ticket as low priority: So once I upload an update for the current version of paintball, I will include a fix for this as well. For the time being you can savely ignore this error in case it pops up again.
