MobCatcher
MobCatcher
Capture mobs and get eggs legitimately:
Version: 3.18
This project has moved over to SpigotMC!
Thank you guys so much for all the downloads on BukkitDev. Head on over to SpigotMC to download the latest version of MobCatcher.
This page will no longer be updated.
MobCatcher allows players to capture mobs and get the corresponding spawn eggs. This is useful for trading and transporting mobs from player to player or even across worlds. As well as having a configurable capture item, MobCatcher also boasts configurable mob types and item costs per capture, bringing a new economic value to mob types both peaceful and hostile. MobCatcher is able to store and recall mob specific data saved to specific spawn eggs. This means things like capturing and spawning colored sheep, baby animals, and tamed wolves is possible! This is done via a separate .dat file which saves data for each mob and removes it when that mob is spawned.Try it out on your server today!
This plugin collects basic usage information for mcstats.org. You may opt out in the generated pluginMetrics config file.

MobCatcher will NOT work if you are not using the version of CB it was intended for. Due to the Bukkit "safeguard' system, MobCatcher will break every version change. Do NOT post tickets or comments about ClassNotFoundExceptions or infinite spawning glitches as these are caused by you using the wrong version.
Before posting a bug, check your server console for a giant red error message.

ah, yeah that makes more sense. Weird stance from bukkit bu i guess they have their reasons.
I'll keep and eye out for the volunteers but feel free to add me to a dev list if you ever run one. I'd be happy to help test stuff.

I've tried 'unsupported' releases in the past and I've found that that doesn't stop the general population from complaining about bugs and posting error codes everywhere, lol.
Most plugins can get away with only using the Bukkit API, and not Craftbukkit and NMS code. These dependencies are what allow me to be more unique and bring features that similar plugins simply cannot but only at the cost of these consistent breakages. Bukkit deliberately breaks plugins using anything outside the API in an effort to keep servers safe from broken plugins. Personally, the only time my plugin ever has an issue is when Bukkit has broken it; seems like a bit of a backwards way to try and make things more secure...
Anyways, when I'm working on dev builds I typically release to a small group of bug testers. When it's time for that, I'll post here asking for volunteers to PM me and I'll set you up then if you're still interested.

thanks for the update. I'd be interesting in trying dev builds (even if they were hosted elsewhere and auto compiled as nightlies or something). Most plugins seem to work on upgrade however yours seems to break every time due to bukkit's "safeguard" system. I havent seen this a problem anywhere else so i wonder if theres a way for a user to bypass this if they want to be unsupported.
I can completely understand why you wouldnt wanna do this though. Can be more hassle than its worth. Im very happy waiting for a 1.6.4 build but unsupported nightlies or dev builds would be great.
Thanks,

Posted Sep 24, 2013The first order of business is an update for the RB. Dev build updates will come later, if they prove to be stable enough. It's often a lot of work to be done all at once since Bukkit typically releases the RB and the next dev build at the same time, so try and be patient. People immediately decide that the RB is obsolete, which while not optimal for anyone (plugin devs coerced by users into using unstable builds, users experiencing lots of bugs) is apparently what you guys want ;) lol
I'll see if I can make time to get an RB update done tomorrow, but no promises.
To anyone who thinks reporting bugs for unsupported versions thinking you are helping, you are not. I'm pretty aware what the issues usually are when updating to a new versions and there's essentially a check list of things that I have to fix every time. I've pretty much put big red warnings every I can, lol.
Thanks for the patience guys

1.6.4 does one of the most important things in MC to date, by making it so old map structures aren't completely invalidated by terrain updates (like 1.7), which for people who have large maps or tons of maps, means they need quite a bit of time to go around and load all the structures.

How about you read the red text in the description, it cannot be anymore simpler to understand. 1.6.4 is a dev build! It doesn't even do much to change the game so why even bother updating to it. With the modern client it's easy enough for people to swap between versions.

I know perfectly that the version of mbcatcher is intended to use only with 1.6.2-R0.1 #2812 but even so, i would like that they updated it for 1.6.4 and because of this, i report on what errors does the plugin have on 1.6.4 duuuh

I know it's kind of a pain if you've got multiple things, but it would really help me out if you made separate tickets for each of those issues. Those all sound like things I've either fixed or definitely had working from the start in the past, so it could be an issue with how CB has updated. Filling out the ticket template would help me get some preliminary questions out of the way.
@Awsmpossum1313
I really am trying to not update for dev builds. They're too unstable and they just cause me and everyone else a huge headache. The smallest changes between builds can totally 100% break my plugin and I can't fix things without a lot of work on my part. If I have time, I'll make a 1.6.2-R0.2 version under the pretense that I'm not offering further support and I won't be fixing any bugs until there's a beta build. You would need to use the exact same CB build that I was for there to be any chance of it working properly, lol.

Posted Sep 7, 2013@CommodoreAlpha Hi. Sorry for the delayed response and lack of info...
When I or my players throw a snowball (our catcher) at a mob and it fails - we cannot catch that mob again. Snowballs continue to hurt it rather than attempt to catch it.
Catching a horse crashes my server every once in a while (next time it happens I will get the error code).
When catching an ocelot and then releasing it, its behavior seems to change. It not longer wants to be tamed and it no longer runs from humans. Just looks at you and then walks around. could be a freak accident with the few ocelots we caught but I thought I'd let you know.
Mostly the problem is with the first issue being unable to repeat catching the same mob.

How is this looking? I would love to have a working version back in 1.6.2 R-02.
Most servers were forced into R2 with the exploit bug. Found here: http://www.planetminecraft.com/blog/psa-server-exploit-discovered-update-immediately/
Would love to start being able to use this again.
Thanks in advance for the hard work.

Ah, I totally forgot about that, sorry for bugging you then. It's just that for some reason, not all plugin .jars display all used permissions within the plugin.yml - and often times, I find that it doesn't provide an exhaustive list.
Anyhow, take your time. It's better to push out a build when you feel it's good and ready, than when you feel pressured and end up rushing it.

Posted Sep 3, 2013Hey Everybody,
I've been out of commission for a few days while I've been (and still am) moving into a new place. I do have my internet setup now tho, lol.
I've been working on an update for the 1.6.2-R0.1 Beta and am trying to include as many bug fixes as possible. The most recent version of MobCatcher SHOULD still work on the beta, which is why I've been taking my time and polishing things rather than just pushing out a quick release.
@CommodoreAlpha
Yes, I'll update that page soon. If you ever can't figure out what a node is supposed to be you can unpack the jar file and read the plugin.yml file; that goes for any plugin ;)
@greaperc4
Shouldn't cost eggs for OPs, which I assume you are. If that's not the issue, make a ticket.

Unless you can provide solid evidence it doesn't work or has issues/errors, then one can safely assume it doesn't need updating. (Even though it's "supposed" to break every update.)
In other words, it's always helpful to provide an explanation why something needs to be updated, unless the reason is glaringly obvious.
