Development builds of this project can be acquired at the provided continuous integration server. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff. Use them at your own risk. This link has been removed because Bukkit doesn't like Github as a CI server.
Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Posted Jul 24, 2012I have the same problem with being able to bend while being bloodbended. Also, has lightning bending been implemented in the dev build? Just curious cause I rlly want to use it and I saw that there was a permission for it and help description in-game, except when I try to use it after binding nothing happens. Just wondering, and if it is in the game, I'd love to know how. Thx =P

Nah, they shouldn't. No bending allowed means that they cannot use the abilities they have bound. If you also deny bending.command.*, then they can't bind in those areas either - but pre-existing binds would be unaffected.

I just did it on my server and wasn't able to replicate it. Don't know what to tell you. Maybe you weren't bloodbending him?

They can only use AvatarState while bloodbent. I have tested this on my server and it's definitely the case. Make sure you have the latest version, I suppose.

Posted Jul 24, 2012I was testing bloodbending earlier, it seems people can still bend when I use it on them, they can also fight too, I was able to punch my friend while he was controlling me.

Yeah, it's not really walls, I think. Mostly windows. AirBlast and Fireball too. Just a bug, but it's not too urgent for me to fix.

Posted Jul 24, 2012For you, I figured I should devote an entire post. I warn you, there is a lot of information in this post, and while some of it might be me being annoyed/frustrated with your tone, a lot of it is pertinent information.

Bending could have been partially down while you were on there - it happens.
What perhaps makes me irritated by this post is that you have said you have read through all these comments, and then berate me for not letting earthbending revert itself.
If you had read through the comments or the changelog (which clearly has this information), you would see that I have added grief protection. Earthbending reverts itself after 5 minutes or so. In fact, I have been working diligently on fixing bug after bug where water or earthbending persists longer than it should.
CreeperHeal is a fantastic anti-grief plugin, and I've even made it so CreeperHeal doesn't interact strangely with my plugin. CreeperHeal fixed all damage firebenders do. Airbenders do no damage to the environment. I have already fixed a lot of bugs with waterbending creating water when they shouldn't, and I've added means for earthbending to revert.
Obviously none of this is perfect yet, it's a beta. But I'm working, and to have you basically yell at me and bribe me to do the things I have already done is honestly quite infuriating.

Actually, there is. The WorldGuard flag for no bending is tied to no PvP, not no building. Which means /rg flag <id> pvp deny + /rg flag <id> construct allow would make a region non-griefable and buildable.
You keep mentioning these server owners you speak to that wouldn't let this plugin on their server because of the grief possibilities - that might be improved if you gave them correct information. In a page of around 300 comments, you saw a (very early) one where I mentioned that I won't be adding earthbending reverting, and it seems like you've just jumped on that comment and skipped everything else to make this post.
Additionally, honestly it seems like you're just waving your money around as a motive or something. I'm glad to see that you're paying to have someone make this plugin what you think it should be, because that tells me that you do not have the experience in coding to do it yourself. Not saying that is a bad thing at all, but before you say something should be "easy" or should be done this way or that, maybe you should get a bit of experience so you realize how "easy" it isn't. Let's see you comb through intricate weaves of code looking for a bug that can't even be reproduced reliably, then you can berate someone about an how existing feature isn't exactly how you want it.
It's honestly incredibly disrespectful to say that I have failed you, basically, when the things you mention aren't even the case.
I really want to hear your reply to this, because it seems like you've been extremely misguided in a lot of the information you have, and I want to know if I have cleared this up.

Sure, make a texture pack. That's not up my alley though. And it's not something I'm going to base the plugin around, because it goes against the whole not-making-players-download-something-extra philosophy I have.

No, I don't know how to say this more clearly. Changing how anything looks in the minecraft world is client-side.

Firstly, you should cite where you got the quote from. If you're going from something like the Avatar Wiki, some observations that lean towards this idea does not make it canon.
They are getting more abilities, as someone said one of those abilities is perhaps the most powerful one airbenders can have. But it's not going to be used for killing people, that's just against what airbenders do. In fact, in the entire series we only have like 2 indications that airbending can even do damage - once when Aang blasted those buzzard-wasps and again when we saw Gyatso dead next to a bunch of other dead firebenders. That's hardly enough reason for me to go "airbenders should get a super-ultimate-attack", especially since with the nature of this plugin, people would just abuse that attack every time it's up.

I haven't really investigated that, but I don't know why it wouldn't be. I don't use BindToItem, and Botz was the one who made that particular feature, so I haven't bothered with any bugs. Maybe we'll eventually look at it to resolve some issues there.

If you can't figure it out it's probably not the plugin for you.

Posted Jul 24, 2012Is the "bend to item" feature no longer supported? Many of the newer abilities don't seem to work properly with items, mainly plantbending, freeze, airscooter, tremorsense (it still can be used to detect tunnels though), and illumination.

Honestly I've never heard more crying in one post. This plugin can completely controlled to prevent griefing with other plugins. Stop crying and asking one plugin to do the work of 10. If you honestly can't figure out how to control it dont use it. This plugin works very well and has come a long way. It doesn't need your useless critizem!

I've noticed that on different servers it behaves differently. On a server hosted by one of my friends the scooter just kinda bounces and only lasts for like 2 sec. On another server I've been on it did what you explained but I didnt have to spam it, and it was smooth hovering 1 block high there.

Compatiblity will just set your display name instead of overriding playerchatevent so it might do nothing or conflit with other plugin that does the same thing. It was just a quick fix. I might look around to see if there's a better way to do it. It's mostly there to be compatible with chat plugins alone

At least one of these attacks should be added to be used in times of great trouble when the benders life is at risk.
