Dev build
Development builds of this project can be acquired at the provided continuous integration server. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff. Use them at your own risk. This link has been removed because Bukkit doesn't like Github as a CI server.
Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

@MistPhizzle
Thanks for the answers
1) You tried to fix it but there's still something wrong with WaterSpout and Tornado...
2) I was a bit generic because I didn't test it, but now I'm sure that always on snow layers waterbenders still get fall damage (I saw in the commits you tried to fix it but is on snow layers, not snow blocks)... Maybe, it's because in minecraft, players can pass trough them?
4) I was just saying that the possibility to move the bender for Tornado is now useless, and could be replaced with something more interesting (see #5), or not? Uhm... Maybe it's usefull to quickly escape from an attack?
12) Sorry, I couldn't find them XD
And now a new suggestion: with Tremorsense, earthbenders can see if there are caves or tunnels under them, what about adding a new signal that means there is a player (for example an earthbender that's using EarthTunnel to assault him)?

Posted Aug 14, 2012Orion i have noticed that water and fire benders both have new (op) abillities, like lightning and blood bending, and i was wondering if maybe earth and air benders will get more moves. Im not sure what to suggest for earth, besides maybe a way to implament metal bending or like generating some metal armor. but like i said im not too creative. but for air i had a thought that they could use a type of concussion wave that causes nausia. Any reply would be apreciated. :)

Is that better? At the very top, a button. Does it need to be even bigger? I know how allergic people are to reading.

Thanks for the compliments, I've worked quite hard :D
I had hoped that the donations buttons would be obvious - there's one at the top right of the page, one on the wiki and one under the spotlight. Do you think I should make them bigger or something? Regardless, here you are ^.^

Excellent job. My server is a survival server with factions and I've used many many plugins. I've used mcmmo, vampire, werewolf, supernaturals, demigods and you sirs, with Bending, are at number one.
It feels like a very polished coding you've done (using build 1.0.7). Congratulations. Point me to the donations button plz :)

Posted Aug 13, 2012OK, fixed the bug in both 1.0.7 and 1.0.8 with the rechoose issues :P
Uploading 1.0.7 for real now (hopefully Bukkit will approve it quickly). Again, if you are impatient, download it here.
@DaPandaStare
Make sure you don't have any other plugin that interferes with the prefixes, like Factions or ChatManager, or some other things. The prefixes are on by default

1) I'll check on these.
2) You'll have to be more specific. Was this on snow blocks or snow layers? Does it consistently not work, or does it seem to be random?
3) I'll check this out too.
4) AirSpout was built for the mobility of Tornado, without the side effects. Tornado still has its use, however, and is a fantastically effective ability.
5, 6, & 7) The tornado being launched is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure I'm willing to do it - it seems a bit lackluster, and also not something that was shown in the series (aside from Aang's super small tornado to cool off some soup)
8) There's actually no way to do that, as Bukkit doesn't have a method to catch when you're flying up or down. Plus, the height changes you have to do to waterbend actually make it feel more realistic - you're flowing and bobbing on a waterspout, instead of staying perfectly still. It's a kind of feedback effect.
9) I have never had an issue where everyone chooses the same element. In fact, PluginMetrics is monitoring that over a large number of servers, and the elements are pretty evenly distributed. I might make such a thing just in case, but I cannot imagine people would like it (how would you feel if you were stuck with your least favorite element - or even as a chi blocker or nonbender?).
10) Absolutely! I didn't know that the sea level could be changed so easily, this is definitely something I can add to the config.
11) Firestream is still used by Blaze - both ArcOfFire and RingOfFire just create a number of fire streams. The only config options that actually do anything anymore are "speed" and "dissipatesAfter". These are the speed at which the fire travels and the time it takes for the fire to dissipate.
12) Check the commits for things like this :D bending.message.daymessage and bending.message.nightmessage
13) WaterBubble has never been in the config. Since it's absolutely identical to AirBubble, it uses the same config stuff. Maybe I'll change that in the future.
Thanks for the help, Mist :D

I will try to respond to as much of these as I can :D
1) Uh, not sure. I have never bothered to actually measure how high it goes.
2) Again, I never noticed this.
3) No idea.
4) Tornado could still be used to disorient other players, for travel, I definitely recommend AirSpout, Tornado could be used on other players instead of travel now.
5) Not my call.
6) Not my call
7) That would be cool, but not my call.
9) I don't think this will be added, but I don't see how it would hurt. Lets say you want to go on a server to play as a specific element, and you're kind of screwed into picking one you don't want and can't change. Seems a bit messed up.
10. Not my call
Questions:
11. I'm not sure what FireStream does in the config, it could just be something that hasn't been cleaned up yet.
12. The permission nodes can be found on the wiki by clicking Waterbending or Firebending
13. Weird, I'm sure it'll be looked into, have no way to verify that at the moment though.

Posted Aug 13, 2012Hey, I have to say a lot of things so please, sorry for my bad english D:
1) I found a strange thing, in my config I have Height set for WaterSpout: 15, AirSpout: 20, Tornado: 25, as default, but when I look at how much higher I get with this skills, with WaterSpout I reach 22 blocks high, with AirSpout: 18, and with Tornado about 22...
2) Another bug: sometimes, waterbenders get fall damage on snow anyway...
3) When I use Surge and I press shift to make appear the WaterWall, if I aid on water and I click it won't freeze the wall but it will make a Wave, I don't know if it's a bug or you made it so...
And now comes a list of suggestions...a long list...LoL
These are only suggestions so if you don't like them you can even ignore them, for me it doesn't matter...
4) I thought why should I use Tornado to move myself if I have AirSpout that is more comfortable (with Tornado I have to look down to move myself)?
5) Why not remove the Tornado ability to move the player and instead making that when I aim it under myself it will make a thing like AirShield but it pulls enemies above yourself instead of sideways?
6) And make that when a player clicks with the Tornado skill it will launch a tornado in that direction and pulls all enemies in that line instantly on air? This could be the new powerfull skill for air element...
7) Or perhaps merge Tornado with AirShield and make that when a player presses shift it will make the shield, and when a player clicks it makes the thing at point 6?
8) What about making the height control of WaterSpout avaible only when you have selected the slot/item? Because players cannot use the FastSwimming and other water skills with it...
9) Can you please add a "Random choice" option in the configs? Because in some server maybe is needed to prevent everyone choose the same element...
10) Can you please add a "Water level" option in the configs? Because with some terrain generator plugins you can change even that D:
Questions:
11) What is FireStream in the configs?
12) Which is the permission node to make appear messages?
13) WaterBubble disappeared from the configs...
Thanks for reading,
Cecio ;)

Just do this in the following order: /bending choose fire /bending add water /bending add earth /bending add air /stop (to reboot the server) Now launch the server again. You will now be able to bind skills from all elements.

Posted Aug 13, 2012Is there any way waterbenders could use the water in their waterspouts to bend?
@burp27
Do /bending add <element>
