Dev build
Development builds of this project can be acquired at the provided continuous integration server. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff. Use them at your own risk. This link has been removed because Bukkit doesn't like Github as a CI server.
Minecraft: The Last Airbender is a Minecraft plugin for a Bukkit server. It is designed for Survival Multiplayer, and allows players to choose an element to bend as the benders do in the world of Avatar (the stage of Avatar: The Last Airbender and its sequel The Legend of Korra).
Some quick notes: I will warn you that you will not be able to do everything they do in the show. There are limitations both in Minecraft and in Bukkit that prevent such extravagance. In the details of each discipline you can see exactly what you can do. As such, the description of the bending disciplines is a little altered to reflect their role in the world of Minecraft: The Last Airbender.
Features
- Play as a bender and choose which type you would like to be.
- Battle other users and see who is the best of the best.
- Compatible with WorldGuard, Factions, PreciousStones, GriefPrevention, and CreeperHeal. (Many more plugins will be added to this list)
- Nothing is required client-side
- Permissions support!
Bending
Users may bend water, earth, fire, air, or can go with being a chiblocker.. You may pick which type of bender you would like to be with the command: /bending choose [water/air/earth/fire/chi]. You may only choose one, with the exception of the Avatar, and you may never change it so be careful in your decision.
Waterbending
- Specializes in maneuverability in and on the water.
- Oceans are perfect for water benders.
- Techniques range from shooting water that do damage, freezing lakes, or even pushing enemies back with powerful waves.
- This bending style is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Water bending opens up many options in bodies of water that are otherwise closed to the other disciplines.
Earthbending
- Specializes in manipulating the earth around them.
- Any area which contains land is perfect for earth benders.
- They have the abilities to pull columns straight up from the earth, drill their way through any mountain and launch themselves through the air.
- This bending style, like water bending, is a mixture of offensive and defensive.
- Earth benders do not take fall damage as long as they land on the ground.
Firebending
- Specializes on destruction and incineration.
- Any environment, besides on any bodies of water, is perfect for them.
- They may create rings of fire on the ground, shoot lines of fire, and even create exploding fireballs.
- This bending style is pure offensive, and very little mobility/defense.
- Fireball is the only ability they may use that does not require any solid ground beneath them.
Airbending
- Specializes in mobility & defense.
- The land is the ideal place for airbenders, although they may also bend over the water.
- Bending air allows you to use wind to blast things away, forming a shield of air around you, or using a tornado to lift you, or your opponent, off of their feet.
- This bending style is perfect for pacifists and explorers for they lack any raw damage output, but make up for it with their utility and speed.
- Choosing air as your element increases your overall speed, decreases the rate of hunger and disables fall damage.
Chi Blocking
- Specializes in bare handed combat.
- Move faster, jump higher, take less fall damage.
- Can block someones chi, stopping them from Bending for a short period of time.
- Abilities range from Higher Jumps, Faster Punches, and Paralysis of enemies.
HELP! It's not working!
This is a Bukkit plugin, not a single player mod. It will never be a single player mod. Go to the Bukkit Wiki to set up your own server. You can play on it just like you would single player, and it requires nothing more than setting it up.
If anything is not working, look around for a development build of Bending.
Development progress
School has picked back up, so plugin development will be very intermittent at best. I've done away with the ordered releases, and will most likely be keeping 1.0.7 the "official" version until I release it as 1.1.0. It's a jump, I know, but if I were forced to stick to a schedule, the plugin would never get done. This is because there are things I like coding and want to code now, and I shouldn't have to wait just because I have something else planned for the version.
As such, there is no ETA on the release. The dev build will of course be updated as I add features, but 1.1.0 will only be officially released when everything is completed, and that could take a very long time.

Not to badger, but do you have an ETA of when the dev build will be updated?

Yes, the passives and other "harmless" abilities currently have a bug where it checks if the ability is harmless BEFORE it checks if you have permissions. This is fixed in the new dev build (waiting to be released).
@monstercat101
In my testing, I've found that only 2 things cause fall damage for Earthbenders (and Airbenders) when they shouldn't - some server lag, and sometimes NoCheatPlus will say "screw you" and completely ignore ALL of the precautions I take to make NCP behave with it.
@haybear32
Yeah. So here's what you do to get it to work on 1.4.5:
Nothing. It already works on any server above I think like 1.3. Natively.

Hey orion. Thank you for the help. Here is my real permissions file which uses inheritance. I tested it using the Member rank. http://pastebin.com/9SeLiuCh
In the world "zwinkie", our survival world, the member rank can't do anything with bending... but some of the passive ones still work. The member rank can still use the following in main survival world even with the - -bending.* permission: (Tested each ability myself) http://pastebin.com/GTu8rP3T
I am using the dev build from https://github.com/orion304/MinecraftTLA/raw/master/Bending2/.devbuild/Bending.jar so I assume I have the version which implements your fix/
Any insight? Thanks.
@codiaz
If you would have read my reply, I explicitly said I removed inheritance in order to properly debug. I do use inheritance.

I'm looking into how I will configure tornado, a thank you to all who reminded me of the config. I'm glad you're waiting for the opportunity to add lightning redirection. I was wondering if bukkit actually made it possible however, I just thought I'd throw it out there. Keep up the great work! :D

No, that was never in the show.
@ChanceFatal
Download the dev build.
@Asurakwesi
Tornado already is a very effective ability against players, just simply not in the same way it is against monsters. But yes, as was pointed out, you can change it all in the config.
@codiaz
The dev build is still not updated, and won't be until Bukkit comes out with a new RB.
@Makemyday17
You can already lightningbend. And Bukkit has no implementations for the Beacon light, or many other features. As for stronger abilities, each element has their "ultimate" ability already - FireBurst, AirBurst, Shockwave and Torrent. Lightning is already plenty strong.
For the learning moves thing, read the bit about RPG in the FAQ.
@craftminion
You mean exactly as it already functions?
@Asurakwesi
I'd love to implement Lightning redirection, and I already know how I'd do it (quite similar to your suggestion). Problem is, Bukkit doesn't have an event to catch for Lightning strikes, so the code simply doesn't exist to be used.
@CyanLights
I have used permissions pretty extensively myself. If you can tell me the specific abilities that are NOT listening to your permissions, that would be helpful. Something I've fixed in the latest unreleased dev build are all the "harmless" abilities:
AirSpout, WaterSpout, Illumination, all the passives, HealingWaters, and some other abilities.

Posted Dec 5, 2012I was wondering if firebenders could somehow find a way to redirect lightning. I'm not thinking anything complicated or out of the ordinary. I think that if a firebender uses lightning on another firebender that's holding shift whilst on the lightning slot then if it hits it will not deal damage and will make the lightning ready to use for the redirector. If the redirector's lightning is already charged then the instant charge just won't take place. I think that this should have a long cooldown to avoid firebenders staying in shift to avoid lightning damage. It seems like a pretty balanced and tactical technique. I'm still thinking about it but I think it would be very useful for master firebenders. They know that they'll have to make it count because of it's long cooldown and if used correctly then they can just dish back that damage. It's not something I feel is impossible to calculate because one can guess when a firebender is trying to use lightning by the sneak and charged smoke (good intuition is key since there's chance of it being another technique). Redirection will only kick in when the user has been struck by lightning. I know it might sound a bit tricky however, I think this could really spice up firebending fights, promote agni kais and unless it's against another firebender it can't be used so it's not a frequent safety net. I hope you'll consider it, thank you very much for reading. :)

Bukkit doesn't give ya the oppertunity to use the beaceon light, and it isn't possible to shoot it from your hand, like earlier was asked if Orion could use the laser of the enderdragon, but this is not possible, unfortunately :( And of that leveling system you can turn all bending off so only ops can use it and than put the permission line in everytime they get a higher rank so they have more bendings (I don't think Orion is gonna make a leveling system, he said it was not an RPG but more a skill plugin (or something like that :P))

Posted Dec 5, 2012The beam you get from the beacon, can you do something cool with it? such as lightning bending that azula could do? is there a way to add something mroe very powerful for each element? Water already have their bloodbending, so that's done. But is there a way of adding thunder bending like some very skilled firebenders could do in the series. If it's not possible to improve the lightning so it comes from the hand, can you make so the lightning is really powerful, or it calls down a lot of lightnings etc or one lightning that fires instant.
And is it possible to like, make them learn abilities? as more they play and practise as more abilities they learn for example? May water just start with Waterspout and Surge for example. And how is that possible?

Yes. Let me upload my permissions file to pastebin for you. It isn't working. I can still use WaterSpout in the main world.

I used PEX and have one ladder which players climb. Each successive rank inherits the last. Are you saying I should be explicit about permissions and remove inheritance completely and then dump this into a world entry for the survival world?

I can assure you, if you negate the permissions, it stops bending any/all moves. The issue may be the configuration of your permission plugin and what worlds it inherits to. Make sure the world in which you want to stop bending has a separate groups file, and that the default group there has all the disabling perms. Also make sure that that world isn't listed as inheriting the groups and users from any other world. :)

Orion,
I appreciate your help, but I'm afraid I'm still having problems revoking bending permissions. My goal is to revoke all bending in my main survival world, so that it doesn't change our gameplay mechanics.
I revoked myself all of the nodes listed on your permissions page (using -bending.perm.perm, etc), including the passive ones, I did this so I could further debug in case it was because -bending.* having inheritance issues.
Unfortunately, even with -bending.water.waterspout and -bending.water.passive, I can still use WaterSpout and HealingWaters. I assume it is the case for other things like AirSpout as well.
Would it be at all possible to just have blacklisted worlds in config.yml? I'm sorry for causing so much of a hassle.

penquin as long as you post comment relative to the plugin then there's no problem. I'm very sorry you're having those issues however, from the sounds if them they cannot be resolved here nor should they be addressed here. I hope everything is solved as soon as possible. If you're upset, please don't be. :)
Let me just type in advance before any chance of being warned that I'm aware my messages might have been acknowledged as spam and for that I'm very sorry. I do not wish to make it inconvenient for anyone. :(
