Bukkit

• Added the ability for a player to have multiple protected areas
• Limit to the number of protected areas per person can be configured by the server administrator
• Modified command behavior to cater for multiple protected areas

When a BlockPlaceEvent is cancelled (i.e. player attempts to place a second bed), the 2 block of the bed still appears to be placed. I believe this is a bug in Bukkit/Minecraft. See this issue in the github page and this forum post for more details.
