MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

No, I don't know what you mean. Please explain a bit more and in more detail.
You can unbind a spell by binding to your empty hand (or if you use a dev build you can use the unbind spell).

Posted Mar 13, 2012We need the spell cast unbind please. My gold hoe and boots are shooting sparks if you know what I mean? =/ And everytime my admins forget spells they have to do it again on login please help!

Posted Mar 11, 2012Using Volley as an example.
Is there a way to modify that spell to give a % chance for each arrow?
Say I have a Volley with only 5 arrows, 100% to get 4 and only 25% chance to get the 5th arrow.
I have read a bit, I could be missing it but I don't know how to do it at this time.
Help appreciated.

Usually TNT and dead mobs disappear after relogging though. The enderpearls are still there after relogging, restarting the server, and even after loading the map into MCEdit and then saving and re-uploading it. It's pretty bizarre. They're hard to see, but from certain angles you can just see glitchy enderpearls falling between 4-5 blocks over and over and over.

This is likely the same issue as other similar entity-not-disappearing issues, such as activated TNT not going away, or dead mobs not disappearing properly. It's just a Minecraft bug that's been around for ages.

Posted Mar 10, 2012I've run into kind of a peculiar issue using the projectile spell. I made a projectile spell using the enderpearl as the projectile, and have found when I spam the spell it will sometimes leave "ghost" enderpearls in an area that just fall and reset forever. I have yet to find any way to actually get rid of them, none of the typical worldedit commands to remove entities have worked. Anyone have any insight on this? Thanks.

Posted Mar 9, 2012I cannot seem to get a spell to target players. Even though the "Target-Players" field is "true", the plugin seems to default those to not being able to target players. But they do target mobs fine. Any idea what's going on?

Sometimes the point the world defines as its spawn point can be blocked. You can try resetting it if you want. If you use coordinates, don't put spaces between them.
