Info
MagicSpells is a Minecraft Bukkit plugin that creates magic spells your players can use. Its main purpose is to give your players access to certain abilities that you might not want to give them unlimited access to. However, instead of just giving them access to boring commands, they instead get more interesting spells. Each spell can be configured in many ways:
- Reagent costs (the cost of using the spell, including items, mana, health, hunger, experience, and item durability)
- Cooldowns (the amount of time a player must wait between uses)
- Durations (how long certain effects last)
- Ranges (how far away spells can be used from their target)
- Many more options, depending on the spell
Spells can be cast by using the /cast command, swinging a configurable wand item, or both. It's also possible to have them triggered from other actions the player may take. It's all customizable.
Usage
Before a player can cast a spell, they must already know it. There are several ways a player can learn a spell:
- Taught with the teach spell
- Learned from a spellbook
- Learned from a tome
- Gained from a grant permission
- Purchased from a shop
- Being a server op (they know all spells) For example, a server op can teach Bob the blink spell by typing: ''/cast teach bob blink''.
Once a spell is learned, it can be cast either by using the ''/cast'' command or by using a wand item. Now that Bob knows the blink spell, he can either cast it by command, by typing ''/cast blink'', or he can cast it with a wand item. To select the spell, he holds the wand in his hand and right clicks. Right clicking will cycle through any spells assigned to the item he is holding. When he has the one he wants, he left clicks to cast.
If Bob does not have the required reagents for the spell, or if he has cast it recently and it is still on cooldown, he will not be able to cast the spell and will instead receive an error message.
If mana is enabled, a player can use the ''/mana'' command to see how much mana they currently have. Mana can also be configured so it is displayed on the experience bar.

You replied to one of my comments before with this:
" By using dummy spells and passives, you can make all spells respect friendly fire assuming both teams are in separate groups."
Do you have some kind of example? I tried multiple things but it isn't really working.

Posted Jun 23, 2012gii man first of all, that's the best plugin of magic i've ever seen, it's extremely higly configurable, has lots of skills and make possible almost everything. and i'd like to make a few suggestions, easy things i believe.
wallspell- i don't think people realized how awesome this is , with the right push, that can be amazing.
-it complements the second suggestion, in the composition of the wall, could you put air(to make holes) and fire, to replace the blocks? and then it comes back.
little report- when we put water in the composition, it don't vanish after a while
-I see that you can extend upward and sides, you think its possible to do it forward too? like a cube.
-it would be nice if the skill ''freeze'' actually freeze the water or extingish fire, but it can be made with external spells ( incredible by the way).
just for you understend the sake of my suggestions, the theme of my server is Avatar, with all the bendings and stuff xD
some other reports... i believe you know about them but.. anyway explode- doesn't metter what value i put on the damage multiplier, doesn't change a thing. D: fireball- the small ball of magmacube is buggy
thx for reading :D

Are you holding the item you want to unbind from when you cast the spell?

Posted Jun 23, 2012Recently I've found that I can't unbind spells at all. I use craftbukkit, so it updates all my plugins for me. The latest update (before 2.7) it removed the ability to unbind by "binding to my hand" but still didn't have the unbind spell available. I manually updated to 2.7 and added the unbind spell to the spell list, but when I cast using "/cast unbind spellname" it says that spells is not bound to that item. Even though it keeps casting whenever I use the item.
Please help.

Well if I call one spell "Fireball" and another spell "Fireball", the plugin only considers one of the spell. Say I had a "Fireball" with a dandelion wand that consumes the dandelion on use, and "Fireball" with a rose wand that consumes the rose on use. Only the rose would have the fireball spell when the fireball spell is learned, and not the dandelion. I've tried this.
If you mean one spell is "Fireball" and another "Fireball!", well that would mean setting another spell shop, which is impractical. Though I will do this if there is no other way.

You can just call one Fireball and the other Fireball!

Posted Jun 21, 2012Hmm well, this is a bit iffy; because I have Magicspells shop set up, they would have to buy them seperately. Unless I can have spell copies of the same name?
EDIT: Nope.. doesn't work :(

It is possible. You can bind a spell copy to a second wand, and change required reagents, mana etc. http://nisovin.com/magicspells/spellcopies

Posted Jun 21, 2012I wish to make it so that a spell has 2 wands; and the two wands requiring different reagents.
Is this even possible? Would be amazing if it did.

You can assign permissions on a per world bases for spells.
@Dinastya By using dummy spells and passives, you can make all spells respect friendly fire assuming both teams are in separate groups.

@Amazing_kid just disable the permission on the other world

Hey, I have plenty of experience working with this awesome plugin, I was wondering if you could let me complete the documentation for the spells in the wiki?

Posted Jun 19, 2012I have no idea what he did to cause this, but the solution was to remove the spell from the user
The user got kicked all the time when he logged in.
