Posted Dec 22, 2014I just removed and re-submitted the 3.9 build, the issue that @billbibalou found would have affected any completely new install of the plugin, but otherwise I think the build is ok.
Thanks, and sorry about that!

Thank you! That helps a lot. This is most certainly the problem, though I don't know why:
java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: The embedded resource 'spells.yml' cannot be found in plugins/Magic-3.9.jar
It kind of looks like it's just a bad JAR - I'll download the one here and do some testing when I can, if this is an issue with the upload I will remove it and upload a fixed version.
I guess in the meantime just stick with 3.8 (Sorry!), it's basically the same except 3.9 has support for 1.8.

If you have the log file, please go to pastebin.com and paste it in, and then paste the link here.
That'd help me a lot- I'm worried now that 3.9 build here is broken somehow ;(

3.9 should work fine...
What IS in your logs, then? Can you pastebin the whole thing, or at least just the parts where Magic is loading config files?
I guess if I really uploaded a bad build for 3.9 I definitely want to know so I can pull it down :/

The video doesn't explain what you're seeing because what you're seeing sounds pretty broken :/
There should be some errors in your logs, it'd be helpful to see that. It sounds like the plugin is failing to load the spell configs, but I would have no idea why without seeing the error logs.
I run a public server with Magic 3.9 and both spigot 1.8 and the 1.8 protocol hack (it's bungee corded), so I don't think it is a simple version conflict.

Posted Dec 21, 2014hi I have installed magic and I do not understand how to put spells on the wands I have villager wand but there is no spell. When I use right click I pass on spell mode but there are six sticks and the wand does not launch spells. When I write / spells it says "you do not know Any spells in this category" is this because I use magic 3.9 and I spigot 1.7-1.8 thank you (I think the video should further explain how the plugin works)

Can you provide the Spigot version you're using, and please check your logs for any errors?
If you are using Spigot 1.8, you'll need Magic 3.9 or a dev build. Otherwise, yes, Spigot is definitely supported- that's basically all I run anymore. Does anybody still actually use Craftbukkit?? :\

Posted Dec 18, 2014I just submitted Magic 3.9, which should have full 1.8 support (and 1.7 backwards compatibility)
The next release will probably be 4.0, and my main goal with that is all-new default configs.

Posted Dec 18, 2014Update on 1.8 compatibility progress - I believe I have fixed all of the hard errors fixed (in the latest dev build). However, I don't actually have a recent build of Spigot 1.8 to test with! I'm on a Mac and as of yet it's not supported for building Spigot. I have an older build that has some pretty critical bugs with to Magic wands.
If you'd like, please download the latest dev build and try it out in the latest Spigot 1.8 and please let me know!
Otherwise, I have some specific issues I need to figure out with regards to not being able to add certain materials to the player's inventory. Specifically this will be an issue with engineering magic and the lava and water brushes- you can't have water or lava in your inventory anymore, so that will be gone in 1.8 until I can figure out some kind of "placeholder icon" thing.
Honestly I was really hoping that 1.8 would bring custom items in a way that would finally break Magic free of having to (re)use all of the vanilla items, but it seems like I'm still stuck there. Thinking about how I want to approach the new configs, I was really hoping I'd be able to use custom icons for spells.

That is normally due to another plugin "interfering" somehow- unfortunately, it's very difficult to figure out what plugin. Anything that stores, transfers, organizes, or otherwise messes with a player's inventory is generally a good suspect.
@DiscipleGeek
Thanks! Keep an eye on my dev server- I've been a little inactive lately, but I am hoping to get 1.8 support working. At this point it's mostly a matter of getting EffectLib working- but there will also be some config tweaks needed, there are lots of "items" that were OK to have in your inventory in 1.7 but no longer OK in 1.8 (like water, lava, etc)

Posted Dec 14, 2014@NathanWolf I just wanted to throw my hat in for a request for an update to 1.8. My friends and I love this plugin and can't wait to use it on my server again. I understand you're busy, but I wanted to make certain you knew more people are looking forward to an update.
Thanks for all your hard work.

Hi thanks for your answer. It works very nice but i have 1 more question. Sometimes when i restart the server the wands stop being a wand. It is just a wooden hoe. Am i doing something wrong or is this a setting ? Thanks so far :)
edit: ah not only a server restart, somtimes it just happen randomly. Its clear i have to learn this plugin. This is a very awesome one :)

I am hoping to find some time to put a 1.8 version together soon! I know EffectLib needs an update, and I just haven't had the time to look into this, sorry.
@Hephzebah
I think it should trigger MM. Magic applies damage at a low-level, other plugins will perceive it as splash potion damage caused by a potion the player has thrown- so if MM detects that (I believe it does), you should be fine.
