Grief Prevention
AUTOMATICALLY PREVENTS ALL FORMS OF GRIEF, including build/break, theft, spam, fire, spawn camping, lava dumping, chat trolling, advertising and more, so you don't have to undo any damage after the fact. It even teaches players how to use it so you don't have to! No configuration or database required. Stop responding to grief and prevent it instead. Grief Prevention will solve your grief problems without requiring you to manage a roster of trained administrators, juggle 10 different anti-grief plugins, take away cool standard game features, publish a training manual / tutorial for players, or add explanatory signs to your world. You can also choose to integrate PvP elements into build design to finally get a PvP experience befitting a sandbox game about creative building.
Grief Prevention stops grief before it starts automatically without any effort from administrators, and with very little (self service) effort from players. Solve all your grief problems with a single download, no database, and no configuration step.

Please Vote for Grief Prevention
I've also posted Grief Prevention on the Spigot site, where plugins are ranked based on reviews. If you love GP, please take a couple of minutes to give GP your rating and leave a short review. Better rating and positive reviews will help server owners who look for plugins on the Spigot site make the safe choice (GP) instead of downloading something sketchy or incomplete. :) Thanks so much for all your support!

Hi re, it looks like a combination of a bukkit bug and using essentials protect along with grief prevention. I can work around it on my end, I'll get the fix into the next version I release this weekend. :) Thanks very much for submitting the complete error information. Without it and the essentials source code posted on github, it would have been much harder for me to figure this out.

Posted May 25, 2012Hey guys, minor updates to the plan for the next version.
I will be removing the one hour maturation requirement for claims before players can dump lava in them.
I will block fluid flow out of claims.
I will block fluid placement out of claims.
When any block is unclaimed (abandonclaim or resize smaller), any above-sea-level fluids will be automatically removed. Admin claims are exempted from this rule.
Together, all of these above rules should make it impossible to make a mess with lava or water in the wilderness, while at the same time not stopping players from immediately using lava and water within their claims for anything they like.
New TNT rule will stay in effect. TNT will not destroy blocks at or above the surface, just like creepers today.
RestoreNature will reduce in power to not create holes in the ground where there's only a thin layer of dirt separating the surface from a cave.
A more powerful restorenature mode will be introduced, which can remove logs, leaves, and hanging grass/stone. It will be more precisely controllable vertically to avoid accidental removal of underground blocks. This mode can be used to remove griefer-grown trees and griefer-built stone or leaf constructions, which standard restore nature mode ignores.
:) These improvements come to you courtesy of some wannabe griefers who visited my server recently! They deserve your thanks. Even with basic restore nature, I was able to remedy 6 hours of grief (3 griefers working two hours) in under 10 minutes. These improvements will reduce that to about... 2 minutes I think. (Of course, they only managed to grief some unclaimed grass and sky, so 6 hours of fail, woohoo!).

The next version, this weekend. I already have it working on my test server. Basically I'm saying "if there's an explosion near or above sea level, don't let it destroy any blocks". We still get the boom, just no destruction.
@Sileos
I want to look al ittle closer Sileos can I come visit? Send me your server info in a private message?

When are you going to release the build with the tnt not destroying the surface but useable for mining? I was working on a plugin for this, but if you're going to do it, then I'm not going to need it. :P Just a check here, but make sure if you cancel the event, it happens before say, it can be ignited by redstone.

Well if you don't want the land claims and all that, then you will have to configure just to enable those griefs. But anyway by default, you won't have a problem with creepers, lava dumping, fire, or tnt messing up your landscape.

Sorry I am running CraftBukkit version git-Bukkit-1.2.5-R1.3-13-g7ab0391-b2190jnks (MC: 1.2.5) (Implementing API version 1.2.5-R2.0)
I use a host server so I was not sure pulled that from the server log

By most up to date do you mean the latest recommended build or the latest dev build? On dl.bukkit.org, the latest recommended is #2190.

Yes, because the subdivision is owned by mr cheese, who has build permission in the top level claim. But the owner of the top level claim always has the power to modify permissions in the subdivisions, so he can police his own area. I don't want to stop flow in this case because flow could also be intentional, and I wouldn't want town owners to have to do weird workarounds involving extra bucket dumps and lots of blocks to prevent backflow.
It does some smoothing and filling, but only very little. I'm trying to avoid wiping out natural stuff like caves, stream valleys, and ravines. Plus, smoothing over a larger area is much more expensive (for your server to run) and complicated (for me to maintain without breaking stuff).
@Sileos
There's no limit on number of subdivisions. Let me try to see if I can get the issue to happen on my test server. If I can't, I may need to come over to your server and have a look. Are you running a recommended build of craftbukkit, and the matching grief prevention build for that craftbukkit version?

cool stuff, I know WE breaks stuff with maps upgraded to Anvil and sure enough it's a risk... so it's fine with me if regenerate nature routines are used for the cleanup ;)
anyways, I just realized my provided doesn't have console in control panel but supports remote connections to MC, so I'm sorry to lie a bit there... still, I'd like to see the auto-regeneration implemented myself :D

Posted May 24, 2012Hello,
Can you help me with something I did not see it in the thousands of comments you have, so I am sorry If you have answered this already.
My admin claims are not working for some reason. I have an admin area that is subdivided but it does not seem to be sticking. when ever someone uses string it claims that there is nothing there. But if I try to set the area up again the boarder reappear and it says I am overlapping an area..
I am trying to prevent people from messing with what I call the "The Market" but they will still be able to use the "chest-shop" signs.
This was working before so I am not sure why it stopped working anymore. Is there some limit on subdivisions?
Sorry for the long post.

daddycheese.com is extremely cheap and offers realtime webconsole. although they recently limited it to like 45 lines a second (so it gets cut out on fast startups)

this is why I don't like the new restorenature. all it does is get rid of non natural blocks, and then cover all in grass. it does no smoothing or refilling on its own. :(
