    Some currencies may involve having multiple denominations with different face values. The sum total of which could be used to purchase something, and change given in various denominations.

    E.g. An item costs 37p, and a customer pays with a single 50p coin. The shop gives back a 10p, a 2p and a 1p coin in change.
