EnchantPeek
EnchantPeek 0.9.9 - BETA
I got tired of waiting for an update to Thebombzen's EnchantView mod. So I went ahead and made my own enchantment previewer.
This plugin does not require a client mod!
How it works.
Barely... Getting to the relevant data and using it in any manner was quite a hassle. MC normally generates the enchantments on an item in the last possible moment, i.e. when you click on the button. To circumvent this i had to pre-generate the enchanted item when you plug it in the table, save the pregenerated items and then override the enchanting process. (Believe me, it's not pretty.) The enchantment values are then (temporarily) added to the the item's Lore which enables the client to display them in the item tooltip.
But how do I use it?
Easy, just plug the .jar in the plugin directory and give yourself and anybody else you want to access it the permission "enchantpeek.allow". Ops are allowed per default.
If you put an enchantable item on an enchanting table, the tooltip will be updated with 3 rows showing you what you get for the listed price.
Known problems
- The lore sometimes seems to stay in the tooltip until you close the enchantment table.
- There might be some caveats with books, those weren't tested very well.
Screenshots
And here is a small screenshot "tutorial" which visually explains how this works.

Sorry if I misunderstand, but these plugins are for Minecraft servers, not for individual client games. They are not loaded using a mod load (i.e. magicloader). Even if you only want to run a local (your machine) server, I'd still recommend it since you have access to a greater number of plugins.

Good luck, I hope this helps.

Sorry if I sound like a noob. Having some trouble getting your mod setup.
What mod loader are you guys using?
Should the clients be running a fresh unmodified install of Minecraft and the server should simply have a mod loader and this?
I've tried with Forge Mod Loader but I can't get the mod to work by putting it in the mods folder.
If anyone would help that would be great!

Posted Mar 27, 2013For those of you who don't know why I haven't updated EnchantView yet, it's because of a religious holiday. So just wait.

Posted Mar 26, 2013I was actually going to learn minecraft modding just for this. I too was bored of waiting for enchantview.
Even if this is a server mod, is it still usable in single player? I'll use it on a server, but my kids play on single player and would love it use that too.

Posted Mar 26, 2013The file is already uploaded, just waiting for approval. I'll put the source on github as soon as it's presentable (This was made during an all-night coding binge and it looks the part :))
