Changelog

ChatFilter 3, rebuilt from scratch. It shares its filtering engine with the NeoForge mod ChatFilter ReForged.

Two files: +bukkit1.13-26.3 for 1.13 to 26.3, and +bukkit1.7-1.12 for 1.7.2 to 1.12.2. Spigot and Paper.

Upgrading from 2.x: swap the jar. Your config.yml and lang.yml are carried over on first start, with the originals kept as *-2.x.yml.bak. Your old block or censor behaviour stays as it was, and so do the old permission nodes.

New

  • Silent masking. Other players see ####; the sender sees what they typed and is told nothing. Holders of chatfilter.see read the original.
  • REPLACE, SHADOW (soft-mute), BLOCK or LOG, chosen per category.
  • Hard to get around: leetspeak, stretched, spelled-out and self-censored letters, accents, look-alike letters, zero-width characters and hidden colour codes. Whole-word lists and an allowlist leave innocent words alone.
  • Commands are filtered on their message only. msg * skips the name.
  • Links and IP addresses (with an allowlist), shouting, repeats and floods.
  • Strikes with an escalation ladder, staff alerts, /chatfilter test, and in-game list editing.

Fixed from 2.x

  • The "eleven" triggers can be removed, and they stay removed.
  • A leading backtick, or an accented word, no longer slips through.
  • /me and private messages are filtered.

Tested on Paper 1.7.10, 1.8.8, 1.12.2, 1.16.5, 1.20.1, 1.21.11, 26.1.2 and 26.3.
