bPermissions
bPermissions
Welcome to bPermissions, a Superperms Manager for Bukkit! bPermissions focuses on being unique from the rest of the Permission managers. It's very simple to set up and use, it's lightning fast, fully featured, and has a great support team!
Some features:
- bPermissions has a gui client specifically designed to make running a server so easy that you'll forget that you ever used any other permissions plugin. Get it here!
- bPermissions has a unique command structure, never before seen in a permission manager. It's best used for adding lots of nodes to a user or group from the console or in-game, less typing!
- bPermissions has everything you would expect from a Permissions manager. Prefix and suffix support, inheritance, per-player permissions, multiworld support, promotion/demotion tracks, and even group priorities for multi-group setups.
- Note - bPermissions only defines prefixes and suffixes. You need a chat plugin such as bChatManager for them to show up in chat.
Commands
Say you have a user called 'Bob' and you want to put him in the group 'admin' and give him the prefix 'awesome'.
- /world yourmainworld - selects the world "yourmainworld"
- /user bob - selects the user "bob"
- /user setgroup admin - set bob's group as "admin"
- /user meta prefix awesome - set bob's prefix to "awesome"
You can do the same with groups!
- /world yourmainworld - again, selects the world
- /group admin - selects the group "admin"
- /group addgroup moderator - makes the admin group inherit from the moderator group
- /group meta prefix &c[Admin] - sets the admin prefix to "&c[Admin]"
Some other commands are as follows
- /permissions (or /bperms,/bp,/p) - general commands for bPermissions are prefixed by this
- /permissions import pex - import a pex permissions.yml in the pex folder
- /permissions reload - reloads your bPermissions files
- /permissions save - if auto-save is false, this saves your perms
- /permissions backup - backup your permissions
- /permissions helpme - for the lazy among you, this spews out some basic permissions files into your folder.
In order to use these commands, you'll need the permissions node bPermissions.admin
For configurable /promote and /demote tracks, you'll want to use permissions tracks. To read about those, visit this page
Want more commands? We have some others over on the commands page. Check 'em out!
Editing Files
bPermissions creates per world groups.yml and users.yml files in the bPermissions folder, which allow you to configure permissions on a per world basis.
Because bPermissions was designed to be configured largely via commands, bPermissions will often overwrite changes to these files especially if you /reload or restart the server.
If you've edited the files, you MUST use /permissions reload to load the modified files into the server, otherwise the permissions changes won't apply. Because a standard /reload unloads all plugins like a server stop, we cannot tell the difference between them and this will overwrite changes to your files with whatever the server last stored.
World mirroring
Worlds are mirrored like so:
world_mirroring_to: world_mirroring_from world_nether: world world_the_end: world
This duplicates the whole config for that world. Currently there's no way to have just the users or the groups mirrored, stay tuned for an update that adds this!
bPermissions and EssentialsChat
Allow me to put this issue to bed. Essentials Chat + bPermissions works for prefix and color.
This guide is for current users of EssentialsChat and want to use bPermissions along with it.
Players have colored rank prefixes and faction chat modes are also colored. All text can be colored by the players too using color codes such as &c.
bPermissions\world\groups.yml ( code snippet )
default: default groups: ## Peasant ## default: permissions: - group.default - group.userannouncer - group.userauction groups: - userannouncer - userauction meta: priority: '100' ## Citizen ## rank1: permissions: - group.default - group.rank1 groups: - default meta: priority: '200'
It has nothing configured for prefix but the group names are important (default, rank1)
Essentials\config.yml ( Code Snippet )
change-displayname: true #add-prefix-suffix: false player-commands: - chat.color - chat.format - chat.shout - chat.question chat: radius: 0 group-formats: default: '&8&lPeasant &r&8{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' rank1: '&8&lCitizen &r&7{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' moderator: '&e&l[Mod] &r&3{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}' admin: '&c&l[Admin] &r&e{DISPLAYNAME}&7:&r {MESSAGE}'
Please direct all other Essentials support to their official support networks.
How do I get support?
First, we highly recommend you go read the FAQ page. If the answer isn't there, there's a few options of support.
- Visit the #bananacode irc channel on irc.esper.net. Just head there, as your question, and wait for someone to help you. It might be a while before you get an answer, so be patient!
- You can file a ticket. This is recommended if you don't have the time to hang around in the IRC or you have a bug report. Be prepared to check back to the ticket though, and make sure you attach your bPermissions groups and users yml files to the ticket.
- Comment on the bPermissions main page.
Note that as there's only one (slightly inactive) maintainer at the moment, any support queries may take some time.
However you choose to get support, "pls dont use txt spk," and make sure you use actual grammar.
I'm a developer!
If you wish to hook your plugin into bPermissions, please see the Developer Page for more information! If you wish to contribute code to bPermissions, fork us on GitHub!
Development builds of this project can also be downloaded from GitHub now. These builds have not been approved by the BukkitDev staff, and are possibly buggy. Use them at your own risk.

I'm not sure if /p save or /p reload is a command, But it seems VoxelSniper is overriding those commads anyways, so I can't use them

Posted Apr 26, 2012@codename_B OH darn I feel dumb. I get how that works now. If it is mirrored when you select the world it will tell you it selected the world it is mirrored from. That is not really a big bug just a easy to make misunderstanding. I still should be able to apply perms like meta prefix and suffix to worlds that are mirrored though, so I guess it is a bug worth tackling sooner than later :D

That's a bit of an issue - can you send me your mirrors.yml? If you have omega mirrored to world then that would account for that.
@mikequirk1
If you're having an issue, filing a ticket is a guaranteed way to get support. Especially if you can send me your files, help me replicate the issue etc - it's great!
As an aside - I've been doing
for a good 30 seconds and can't replicate your issue - more information is needed!

Posted Apr 26, 2012Crap two issues as of late.
Cannot change worlds any more. It just tells me that the world changed to world every time. So I cannot do /world omega for example.
Also WorldEdit (I believe) controls exec, can there be other aliases like bexec or something?

Are you changing it via file or in game commands?
Via file do /p reload after you save it. Via in game do /p save after changing things

Posted Apr 25, 2012Hey, Sadly I'm having a bit of trouble again. I fixed all of the Building glitches, but whenever I try to add new nodes or just about ANYTHING to the 'groups.yml' In my 'Build' world, It deletes the thing I just added every time I reload the server. Anyone know why this is?

i use essentials, so, for me: permissions:
- essentials.build
but there are other plugins that support this as well. for the prefixes being doubled, you need to set, in the priority, i.e.:
Builder:
permissions:
groups:
meta:
-prefix: [BUILDER]
-suffix
-priority: '10'
then in the rank above, you need to set the priority to an higher value, i.e. '20', so when you promote a person to that higher rank, it will get the prefix/suffix of that rank, and not the ones from previous ranks. Hope it helped ;)

Posted Apr 25, 2012Hey I had I couple questions, i just started up my server again and so i found out that my old perms plugin was inactive, so im new to this one.
my first question is, what is the building node?
and also I set prefixes, but they are doubled over with other prefixes. Where are these prefixes located?
EDIT* I found out that it is using the group that I have set under someones name in the users folder as a prefix, How can I turn this off?

Any plugins that uses superperms is compatible with any current permissions plugin.

Posted Apr 25, 2012If a plugin says that it will only work with PermissionsEX, will that mean it won't work with bPermissions because they are both SuperPerms. I was thinking that if a plugins permissions are comaptible with SuperPerms then it works for all SuperPerms permissions systems.

Well essentials does have a build perm, so I would use that no matter if it effects you in the region "area" you are testing in cause it is the global build perm essentials uses. You know you can do /region info in the most latest World Guard versions. Just go where you think you might be in a region and use /region info. If there is no regions there it must be essentials or maybe another plugin you have.
@Jungalist81
I would like to help, do you ever use Teamspeak 3? I would like to discuss it with you and help collaborate on it.

Posted Apr 25, 2012Codename_B gave me the greenlight to create a separate webpage for setting up other recommended plugins.
Ive helped at least a dozen server owners/renters with setting up bperms and OTHER plugins. The setup is quite easy.
Features
- A list of recommended basic plugins to use including links.
- step-by-step instructions on how to configure each those plugins.
- Example files for all plugins INCLUDING bperms.

Thanks, It did help a bit and I think WorldGuard is whats blocking the building- once again -.- I got it all fixed until i got WorldGuard and deleted factions, so I will take a look at that. I did however add essentials.build and that did work for a time.

Sorry to post over you codename_B, just thought I would add a few comments that might help him too. I think I get what this poor guy is confused about.
Also please do inform me what the new shorthand commands are you added for 2.9.2 that is still being under review at bukkitdev.
@Blazex224
If you open groups.yml of the world you most used (to start with), you will see at the top default: default. If you change the default after the : to the name of the group you want people to be placed upon first connection, you should be good to go.
Now as for the "unable to build issue", if the default group thing does not help. I would suggest you read the FAQ page. Where the very first thing you see will be.
Q: Why can't I build?
A: bPermissions DOES NOT handle any build-related things by default. This will be related to another plugin you have installed like Essentials, AdminCmd, AntiGuest, Towny, WorldGuard, Residence, CommandBin, TrashCan, et al. In order to be able to build you will have to assign the relevant permission node for the plugin YOU chose to install without reading the documentation for. Go read the documentation for your plugins!
